Job Description

What is the opportunity?

RBC Capital Markets is hiring an Analyst to join the Middle Office Trade Support team within Operational Services, based in Toronto. In this role, you will support the timely and accurate booking, verification, and processing of Foreign Exchange trading activities. FX support will be your primary focus, making this an ideal role for new graduates or early career professionals looking to gain broad exposure across capital markets operations and build a strong foundation in financial services.

What will you do?

  • Support the booking and verification of FX trades including spot, forwards, and swaps in the relevant trading and booking systems, ensuring proper assignment of downstream processing flags for confirmations, settlements, and payment processing.
  • Perform daily reconciliations across internal and external systems, identifying and escalating breaks in a timely manner to maintain data integrity and operational accuracy.
  • Process post-trade events, compressions, and backloads as requested, ensuring all transactions are handled in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Support the timely clearing of transactions within required regulatory timeframes, contributing to the firm's compliance with applicable rules and reporting obligations.
  • Manage exception queues to ensure smooth trade flow between internal systems and external counterparties, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Run daily controls to verify that trades are booked accurately, events are processed correctly, and regulatory deadlines are met.
  • Support Sales and Trading desks, internal stakeholders, and external clients by managing queries through face-to-face interaction, phone, email, Webex, and Bloomberg Chat, working alongside the Senior Associate who serves as the primary point of contact.
  • Participate in User Acceptance Testing, system enhancements, and process improvement initiatives, contributing ideas to identify inefficiencies and support Technology driven resolutions.

Skills and Capabilities

  • Attention to Detail and Accuracy: You must demonstrate consistently high standards of accuracy across all aspects of your work. The ability to identify discrepancies, errors, and inconsistencies quickly and precisely is essential to the integrity of the Middle Office control framework.
  • Working Under Pressure: You must perform effectively under pressure, maintaining accuracy and composure during periods of elevated trading volumes, market events, or time-sensitive deadlines. Managing competing demands across daily responsibilities is a key expectation of the role.
  • Problem-Solving and Continuous Improvement: You are expected to take a proactive approach to problem-solving, developing your knowledge to identify issues and contribute to timely resolutions. Beyond issue resolution, you should actively contribute ideas to improve existing workflows and processes, supporting change initiatives that enhance the efficiency and robustness of the Middle Office function.
  • Independence and Teamwork: You are expected to balance independent working with collaborative engagement. You should be capable of managing your own workload with appropriate guidance, whilst also contributing positively to the wider team and building strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communication: You are expected to communicate in a polite, professional, and accurate manner. Confidence and clarity are expected in all interactions, whether with colleagues, senior internal stakeholders, or external parties including clients, brokers, and Clearing Houses.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Experience: Candidates with 1-2 years of relevant experience within a Middle Office, Operations, or similar capital markets environment are preferred, though new graduates with a strong interest in financial services are also encouraged to apply. Any exposure to post trade activity or capital markets operations is beneficial.
  • Product Knowledge: A foundational understanding of FX products is preferred, though a willingness to learn is equally valued. Candidates should demonstrate interest in understanding the key characteristics of the instruments traded, the associated lifecycle events, and the post-trade processes that underpin the Middle Office function.
  • Systems: Prior experience with specific systems used by the Middle Office function is not required. Candidates should demonstrate an aptitude to learn the types of platforms and infrastructure commonly used within a capital markets environment.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree in a related field such as Business, Finance, Economics, or a similar discipline is required.
