Job Details:
The Department of Counseling at Mercer University’s College of Professional Advancement seeks qualified applicants for an assistant or associate professor of Counseling. This full-time, tenure-track, nine-month faculty position has an expected start date of August 1, 2027.
Responsibilities :
The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding effectiveness in teaching and student engagement; maintain a rigorous program of scholarly work related to the Counseling program’s graduate degree offerings; demonstrate enthusiasm and effectiveness as a mentor to graduate counseling students engaged in research at the doctoral level; engage in intrusive advising and curriculum development/assessment; work collegially with other faculty; demonstrate engagement and collaboration within the university; and demonstrate the capacity for developing strong partnerships within the community to ensure outstanding student outcomes. Demonstrated knowledge of CACREP expectations and standards, experience linking course and program content and outcomes to CACREP standards, experience in the development and implementation of program effectiveness assessment plans, and experience with the CACREP accreditation process are required.
The position’s teaching responsibilities include face-to-face, blended, and a limited number of online graduate courses. Supervision of clinical field experiences, the guidance of student research leading to publications and presentations at academic conferences, and participation on doctoral committees are expected. The faculty workload consists of the teaching equivalent of 9 graduate credit hours per academic semester. Additional duties include academic advising, mentorship, research and scholarship, college and university service, accreditation-related activities, and other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or Dean.
Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision or a related field from a regionally accredited university and a CACREP-accredited program
Licensed or licensed-eligible as a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Georgia.
Credentialed as an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS)
Record of teaching excellence with counseling students
Clear counselor educator identity
Commitment to diversity, advocacy, and social justice
Excellent communication, collaboration, interpersonal skills, and organization
Candidates should also possess teaching experience with demonstrated results and a focus on clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, and/or clinical rehabilitation counseling. Experience and a commitment to working with, mentoring, and teaching adult learners from diverse populations are expected.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with leadership and administration in higher education
Knowledge of CACREP-accreditation standards,
Demonstrated record of research and scholarship
Commitment to the mentorship of counseling students in master’s and doctoral programs
Experience conducting Program assessment and evaluation.

The Department of Counseling was the recipient of the 2018 Outstanding Master’s Counselor Education Program Award from the Southern region of the Association of Counselor Education and Supervision (SACES).
