About the Opportunity

Job Summary

Reporting to the Head Equipment Manager, the Assistant Equipment Manager supports the daily operations of the athletic equipment department. Responsibilities include laundry services, uniform distribution and collection, equipment inventory and maintenance, game-day setup and breakdown, storage organization, and transportation of athletic equipment. The position works closely with coaches, student-athletes, student workers, and athletics staff to support practices, competitions, team travel, and other department activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the distribution, collection, fitting, organization, maintenance, and storage of athletic equipment and apparel for assigned athletic programs.
  • Maintain accurate equipment inventories and assist with periodic inventory counts.
  • Inspect equipment and apparel for condition, cleanliness, and functionality; report damaged, missing, or unsafe equipment to the Head Equipment Manager.
  • Assist with basic equipment fitting, adjustment, maintenance, repair, and modification.
  • Prepare and organize equipment for practices, competitions, team travel, and other athletic events.
  • Assist with game-day setup and breakdown, including equipment preparation, placement, collection, and storage.
  • Operate department laundry equipment and process uniforms, practice gear, towels, and other athletic apparel.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and secure equipment rooms, storage areas, and laundry facilities.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and transportation of equipment and supplies between university facilities and other locations as assigned.
  • Operate university vehicles, as authorized, in accordance with university policies and applicable requirements.
  • Provide limited direction and oversight to student workers, as assigned.
  • Communicate equipment needs, shortages, damages, and operational concerns to the Head Equipment Manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and maintain accurate records.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with coaches, student-athletes, student workers, and athletics staff.
  • Ability to safely handle and transport athletic equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and athletic competitions.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet university requirements for operation of university vehicles, as applicable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in athletic equipment management, collegiate athletics, recreation, or a related field.
  • Experience with athletic equipment, uniforms, laundry operations, inventory control, or equipment transportation.
  • Experience with basic equipment fitting, adjustment, maintenance, or repair.

Work Schedule

This is a part-time position with a variable schedule based on departmental, team, and competition needs. The position may require evenings, weekends, holidays, and other non-traditional work hours, particularly during athletic seasons, competitions, team travel, and special events.
