Position Details
The Department of Health Sciences and Human Performance within the College of Natural and Health Sciences at The University of Tampa invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with expertise in Exercise Science, beginning in August 2027.
We seek a highly qualified and motivated faculty member to complement and enhance our undergraduate Human Performance and graduate Exercise and Nutrition Science programs.
Teaching: The ideal candidate will be committed to teaching a variety of courses in exercise science, nutrition, and human performance. Depending on the candidate’s expertise and departmental needs, teaching responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, undergraduate and graduate nutrition courses, Introduction to Exercise Science, Senior Seminar, Practicum in Exercise Science, and Internship supervision. The successful candidate may also teach other graduate-level courses in the Exercise and Nutrition Science program, including courses delivered in hybrid formats (i.e., online and face-to-face instruction). Experience with program accreditation processes is desirable. Faculty members are expected to create engaging and inclusive learning environments that challenge students to reach their full potential.
Responsibilities will include a teaching load of 12 credit/contact hours per semester at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Service and Student Involvement: We expect our colleagues to fully engage with the institution by providing and/or developing expertise that serves the broader needs of the institution as a requirement for this position. Community and professional service are also valued contributions, particularly where relevant to the discipline. Successful colleagues engage undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of activities as a means of providing greater depth and opportunity to the educational experience at the university. Faculty members also advise students each semester, providing important guidance for enrollment as well as career advice. Service: Experience with the program accreditation process would be desirable.
Scholarship: Candidates are expected to maintain an active scholarly agenda appropriate to their field and the resources available at The University of Tampa. Scholarly activities should contribute to the candidate's currency in their field and are considered in the tenure evaluation process. The exact nature and extent of scholarly expectations may vary by department and should be discussed with the department chair and dean. Start-up funds and research spaces are available but limited compared to research-intensive institutions. As one of the largest departments in the University, ample opportunities exist for collaboration within the department, and our faculty are routinely successful at securing internal grant funds to support research. Assistance is available to identify external grant sources, grant writing, and additional sources of funding for equipment that cannot be purchased with start-up funds.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Health Sciences and Human Performance or related discipline by August 2027. Candidates holding certifications as a Certified Strength Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) and/or Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-EP) are desirable.
The candidate is expected to engage in scholarly activity, advise/mentor students, and participate in service to the department, college, University, and broader community.
The salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
