The Department of Dance at Barnard College, Columbia University in New York City, seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Dance with a focus on Global Dance Studies. This research-focused position emphasizes scholarship and coursework in dance history, theory, and cultural studies.

Job Description:

Barnard is a premier liberal arts undergraduate college for women in New York City affiliated with Columbia University. The Barnard College Department of Dance, located in a world dance capital, offers an interdisciplinary program that integrates the study of dance within a liberal arts setting of intellectual and creative exploration. The Dance Major builds upon practice and performance with accomplished artists, and a rich array of Dance Studies courses with outstanding research scholars, allowing students' creative work to develop in dialogue with critical inquiry into the history, culture, theory, and forms of western and non-western performance, typically enhanced by study in other disciplines.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

Required Qualifications

We seek candidates whose area of interest or specialization includes East Asian, South Asian, African or African Diasporic, Indigenous, Pacific Islander and Native Hawaiian Dance Studies, or dance studies of the Americas.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in dance or related discipline at time of appointment, a distinguished record of scholarly publication or promise of such, proven capacity for teaching excellence at the college level, and ability and desire to perform service within the department, college, and university. This appointment will be based in the Department of Dance, with potential affiliation in a relevant Department as appropriate. Candidates may also be eligible to join the faculty of the Columbia University Ph.D. Program in Theatre and Performance.

Salary: $95,000 - $115,000
