Constructor University is seeking to fill a tenure-track faculty position in organic chemistry with a focus on synthetic organic chemistry, and we invite applications from interested candidates for the following position, to be filled ideally by January 2027:
- Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry (f/m/d)
- (full-time, tenure-track, initially limited to 3 years)
Your Responsibilities:
The School of Science is particularly interested in a candidate who combines experimental and computational or theoretical approaches for the development of synthetic methodology and synthesis of bioactive molecules or functional materials. The implementation of AI, machine learning, or data-driven control / optimization is highly welcome, for example, for synthesis planning, activity prediction, sensing, or structural topology. The successful candidate is expected to engage in innovative research in organic chemistry and to maintain a cutting-edge, externally funded research program that energizes the School of Science.
The successful candidate will conduct teaching in the field of organic chemistry, including fundamental and advanced lectures and laboratories at the BSc, MSc, and PhD level. The expertise in teaching organic chemistry forms an integral part of the basic education in the BSc programs “Chemistry and Biotechnology” and “Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology”. Moreover, the candidate is expected to take a pivotal role in the MSc programs “Quantitative Life Science” and/or “Advanced Materials” with complementary research experience and via the development and implementation of innovative, pedagogically sound approaches to online, hybrid and in-person teaching and learning. This will also include the advising of students on their studies, and the supervision of Bachelor, Master, and PhD theses as well as research projects.
The university is highly supportive of junior faculty, providing both formal and informal mentoring, administrative support, as well as a flexible budget for establishing an internationally visible research group. The University offers in-house adequate shared analytical research facilities, including NMR spectrometers, single crystal diffractometers, and high-resolution mass spectrometers.
Your Qualifications and Experience:
- PhD degree in Organic Chemistry
- Strong publication record in relevant international journals
- Experience in the acquisition of third-party funding is desirable
- Experience in successful teaching in international and diverse environments, integrating innovative teaching and learning approaches.
- Inclination for collaboration with CU faculty and for transfer of research knowledge into applications
- Responsible, self-motivated person able to work independently and as a part of a team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, the language of instruction and communication on campus
- Intercultural experience and competence
- Ideally, the successful candidate should be eligible for an ERC starting grant.
