We seek a candidate whose research will broaden our department in any of several areas. As a result, applications are encouraged from candidates in all subfields of physics and applied physics, both theoretical and experimental. The successful candidate is expected to have demonstrated a keen interest and ability in undergraduate teaching. The successful candidate will maintain a vigorous research program that engages undergraduates in substantive research outcomes. Courses taught will include workshop-style introductory physics for science majors, upper-division courses for undergraduate physics majors, and possibly general-education courses for non-science majors.

Candidates should have a PhD in Physics or a closely related field, and postdoctoral or other research experience beyond the PhD.

Applicants should apply online at https://jobs.richmond.edu and submit a curriculum vitae, cover letter, a statement of teaching interests and philosophy (approx. 2-5 single-spaced pages), evidence of teaching effectiveness if available (e.g., sample assignments and other course materials, examples of graded student work, peer and student evaluations, etc.), and a description of a research program, including plans for undergraduate involvement (approx. 2-5 single-spaced pages). The teaching statement should detail the applicant’s teaching philosophy and approaches to inclusive pedagogy and mentoring in support of a diverse undergraduate community. Candidates for this position may be asked, at a later date, to provide the names and contact information for three references who will be asked to submit letters of recommendation. Review of applications will commence on October 1 and continue until the position is filled. Please contact Dr. Ted Bunn (ebunn@richmond.edu) with any questions. For more information on the physics department and its programs, please visit https://physics.richmond.edu .

The starting salary for the position is budgeted at $85,000. Compensation is determined by the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, and skills. Startup funds will be available.
