Job Description Summary

Department of Sociology and Gerontology invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Public Health with expertise in health care administration, health policy, health services administration, health care management, or a closely related area. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate Public Health courses, serve as Program Coordinator for the major, advise students, and contribute service to the department, program, and university.

Job Description

The Department of Sociology and Gerontology seeks a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor to support the continued development of its Public Health major. The position will begin in August 2027.

The successful candidate will advise students and teach undergraduate courses in Public Health. Teaching responsibilities may include Health Care Organization and Administration, capstone supervision, and courses related to workforce preparation. The successful candidate will also serve as Program Coordinator for the Public Health major. In this role, the candidate will coordinate program development, contribute to assessment, lead exploration of accreditation processes, and strengthen applied and career-oriented curricular pathways for Public Health students.

The position is housed in an interdisciplinary department that includes programs in Sociology, Gerontology, Organizational Leadership, and Public Health. The Department is closely affiliated with the Scripps Gerontology Center, an Ohio Center of Excellence with a strong record of applied research in aging services. Established in 1809, Miami University ranks among the top national public universities for undergraduate teaching.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: Doctoral degree in public health with expertise in health care administration, health policy, health services administration, or health care management; by date of appointment; or Doctoral degree in a closely related discipline with an MPH, MHA, MHSA, or related degree from a CEPH- or CAHME-accredited program by date of appointment. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching.

Consideration may be given to candidates with doctoral-level training from a CEPH-accredited school or program of public health; professional experience in health policy and administration; or experience with undergraduate teaching and advising, curriculum development, program coordination, and accreditation-related activities.
