Job Description:

Department Overview

The Commercial National Accounts (CNA) team provides dedicated relationship coverage to large commercial clients across diversified industrials, healthcare, food & beverage, and financial sponsors. This client base is primarily designated by size of credit facilities which are typically larger than $25 million and up to several billion dollars. It also encompasses all commercial clients (public or private) with syndicated credit facilities.

The team consists of senior commercial banking professionals who combine specific industry knowledge and extensive deal structuring experience to offer a full suite of customized credit and cash management solutions to meet the complex needs of our clients.

Job Description

The Associate role is the natural entry point into CNA for individuals with previous commercial banking, accounting, advisory, or corporate treasury experience. The Associate can be assigned to a specific portfolio but can also provide support to other portfolios within the unit. This role is viewed as a steppingstone for promotion to an Associate Director role within CNA while also providing critical experience and skills necessary for future career progression within TD. Specific job functions include:

  • Prepare thorough, concise credit submissions for amendments, annual reviews, new originations and upsizing of existing credit facilities which notably identify and elaborate on all key risk issues;
  • Contribute to monitoring and control of the loan portfolio, primarily via tracking and analysis of monthly/quarterly reporting packages including validation of financial covenant calculations and preparation of internal reports, all to ensure consistent and timely compliance with TD's internal policies;
  • Ensure TD systems correctly reflect key terms and conditions of credit agreements and other documentation for the assigned portfolio, with respect to data integrity;
  • Assist the Director, Commercial National Accounts in the preparation of marketing materials by structuring competitive proposals while maintaining a balanced view of risk and growth;
  • Collaborate with colleagues from different teams (operations, treasury management, TD Securities) to strategize and resolve client issues;
  • Expand external network and market knowledge by attending networking or industry-specific events.

Job Requirements

Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • Previous experience in commercial or corporate banking, corporate finance, accounting, or a related field;
  • Strong team player with a positive attitude and an ability to work both in a team environment and independently;
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work under pressure, including excellent time management while juggling multiple priorities under tight deadlines;
  • Strong credit, analytical and technical skills, with the ability to critically assess financial statements and other corporate and commercial client reports and draw relevant conclusions to recommend a course of action;
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to exercise judgement to identify, diagnose and resolve problems within TD's policies and risk appetite;
  • Experience handling complex financial models would be an asset;
  • Experience with large accounts and/or syndicated financing would be an asset;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders (origination team, support team, clients, legal counsel, financial advisors etc.);

Specific Educational Requirements/Accreditations:

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in Business, Economics, Finance or other quantitative fields.
