Overview

OMERS Infrastructure employs an active asset management strategy and has evolved its practice to build a best-in-class asset management capability. The organisation has a diverse and experienced cadre of senior asset managers who represent OMERS on all investments and seek to be a leader in terms of governance and a voice of influence around the board and shareholder table on each asset in its portfolio.

The individual will be part of OMERS Infrastructure Portfolio Management and Operations Team, working closely with the Director, Asset Management (AM) and Managing Directors responsible for managing a diverse and complex portfolio of assets across Europe. This role is oriented toward operational value creation, working alongside portfolio company management to strengthen commercial and operating performance, including supporting assets through periods of change or early-stage development where additional hands-on input adds the most value.

Undertaking Specific Asset Projects

Support AM Teams on specific projects, for example:

Act as an operating partner supporting management and deal teams in operating initiatives ranging from reporting improvements, cost structure optimization, initiatives aimed at improving cash generation and enhancing underwriting standards

Position involves operating from both a traditional governance / shareholder advisory role as well as being embedded directly with the company working in conjunction with the mgt team

Work directly with management to support remediation actions on underperforming assets

Identify operational initiatives required to improve on going performance

Drive short term and long term operational improvement initiatives ensuring successful execution of key initiatives

Work with management to developing systems, processes and controls required to optimize efficiency and enable growth

Support various operational diligence workstreams involved with capital deployment including carve out, FDD and IT diligence

Support with resourcing decisions where required, including advising on flexible resourcing approaches (e.g. temporary staffing) to ensure the cost base reflects the asset's actual requirements

Strategy development support

Assessment of exit readiness

Analytical deep dives (as a form of additional due diligence)

Financing and M&A support for projects

Continuous Development of the AM Model

Support the Director and MDs in maintaining an up-to-date understanding of AM practices across peers and leading practitioners, and in developing a framework of AM best practices, for example:

Benchmark asset management and turnaround practices in peer organisations to identify key learnings/opportunities

Support the Director/MDs on specific operational improvement projects

Propose and lead projects that create value-add in asset management practices

Co-ordinate global AM initiatives as required

Develop and maintain a network of operational advisors, turnaround specialists and sector experts, and leverage this network to enhance AM practices and insight across OMERS Infrastructur e

Key Experience and Capabilities

Circa 3-5 years of relevant post-qualification/post-graduate experience; a background in an operating, commercial or general management capacity is preferred over a purely accounting/audit background - for example, experience gained within an operating company, in a strategy/operations consulting role, or in a commercial/transformation function within the energy, utilities or infrastructure-adjacent sectors

A professional qualification (e.g., chartered accountancy, engineering, or equivalent) is an asset but not a prerequisite; candidates with strong operational grounding and no formal accounting qualification are equally encouraged to apply

Experience in a consulting environment and/or a large professional services firm is helpful, ideally combined with some time spent in an operational role within a portfolio company or operating business

Intellectually curious with a capacity to embrace complex challenges

Strong analytically with the ability to go from analysis to concept and make practical recommendations regarding implementation

Flexible with an ability to adapt to very different project types and work across a range of cultures and settings

A bias to completing projects and delivering outcomes, with an ability to capture learnings and share globally

Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to influence and impact at senior levels in OMERS and/or in portfolio companies

Strong EQ with a proven ability to build open and trusting relationships and achieve significant outcomes through influence
