Purpose: The Strategic Capacity Planning role leads the strategic capacity planning process for the clinical manufacturing network, translating clinical sourcing strategies and portfolio demand into an integrated, long-range capacity outlook. The role connects pipeline demand, technical capabilities, operational capacity, financial considerations, and business priorities to enable timely, cost-effective, resilient, and risk-balanced decisions across internal pilot plants, contract manufacturing organizations, and the broader clinical manufacturing network.

Operating with significant autonomy, this role owns the planning framework, assumptions, governance, and decision-quality outputs for the strategic horizon. The role partners with senior leaders across TDS Pilot Plants, External Manufacturing, TDS Strategy & Operations, IMSC Value Chain Management, IMSC Planning, Finance, Portfolio Integration, and CMC; influences without direct authority; and escalates capacity, technology, investment, and supply risks with clear recommendations.

You will be responsible for:

  • Own and lead the end-to-end strategic capacity planning process across a rolling 3–5+ year horizon for the internal and external clinical manufacturing network.
  • Develop and maintain an integrated, modality-agnostic long-range capacity plan across API, drug product and packaging activities.
  • Align pipeline, sourcing, and portfolio assumptions with Portfolio Integration, CMC, Pilot Plant leaders, Planning, and external manufacturing partners.
  • Establish planning standards, capacity definitions, data requirements, governance routines, and performance measures that improve consistency and decision quality.
  • Build and present scenarios that quantify capacity gaps, excess capacity, timing constraints, technology needs, cost, speed, resilience, and risk.
  • Translate analyses into strategic insights, executive recommendations, and decision-ready trade-offs covering patient supply, asset utilization, cash flow, inventory, waste, and contractual commitments.
  • Lead cross-functional scenario planning and align stakeholders on pilot plant, CMO, and IMSC sourcing options, including cost, speed, resilience, business continuity, and investment implications.
  • Anticipate future technology and capability requirements with Portfolio Integration and CMC, and optimize enterprise network capacity with IMSC Value Chain Management and IMSC Planning.
  • Lead continuous improvement of planning capabilities through advanced analytics, probabilistic forecasting, simulation, optimization, and digital twin concepts.
  • Provides input to the TDS representative in the IMSC Network Sourcing Council and other senior governance forums, and provide coaching and subject-matter leadership to planning colleagues and project teams.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in supply chain, capacity planning engineering, logistics, operations research, computing, finance, economics, or a related field is required; a MBA is preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience is required, including substantial experience in strategic capacity planning, supply network planning, manufacturing, or a related supply chain discipline within the pharmaceutical, chemical, biologics, or closely related industry. Demonstrated leadership of complex, cross-functional initiatives is required.
  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical development and manufacturing, including the interdependencies among active pharmaceutical ingredients, drug product, packaging, clinical supply, technology platforms, and portfolio milestones.
  • Strong business and financial acumen, with the ability to connect capacity decisions to portfolio priorities, patient supply, investment, cost, inventory, and enterprise value.
  • Advanced critical thinking, quantitative analysis, and scenario-modelling capabilities, with demonstrated ability to master complexity and synthesize insights into actionable strategies and executive-level recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders without direct authority, challenge constructively, build consensus, and lead decision making across functions, geographies, and organizational levels.
  • Proven track record of independently leading multiple strategic priorities, establishing governance, managing ambiguity, and delivering high-quality outcomes in a matrixed environment.
  • Deep knowledge of global supply and value chains, capacity management principles, sourcing models, network constraints, and risk management.
  • High proficiency with planning, scenario-modelling, data-analysis, and presentation tools; experience with SAP, OMP, advanced analytics, or comparable platforms is preferred.

Other requirements

  • Requires proficiency in English (excellent written and verbal communication skills) to communicate effectively and professionally
  • Up to 10% domestic and international travel may be required
  • Requires the ability, through our flexible work policy, to work on-site a minimum of three days each week, with the option for two remote workdays each week
