Associate Manager, Tax Administration

The Associate Tax Manager manages the company’s federal, state, and local income and indirect tax compliance, tax accounting and reporting, and tax audits. The role supports the Tax Director in tax planning, monitoring and responding to changes in tax law, and improving tax processes and technology. This is a hands-on management position that combines staff supervision and review responsibilities with direct preparation of tax returns, tax provisions, analyses, and other deliverables.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage end-to-end domestic income tax compliance, including directly preparing extensions, estimated tax payments, and tax returns and reviewing staff-prepared work to ensure accurate and timely filings. Prepare and review supporting calculations, including book-to-tax adjustments, state apportionment, tax depreciation, credits and incentives, and other technical tax calculations.
  • Prepare and review income tax provisions, including current and deferred tax calculations, effective tax rate analysis, uncertain tax positions, and related financial statement disclosures under ASC 740 and Statutory Accounting Principles, working closely with financial reporting team and external auditors. Also prepare and review tax forecasts and tax budgets.
  • Manage and review indirect tax returns (sales & use taxes, property taxes, insurance premium and retaliatory taxes, gross receipts taxes, excise taxes, business licenses, and other applicable taxes.)
  • Support the Tax Director with organizational tax planning and research, monitoring changes in tax law and adapting tax strategies and processes, driving process improvements and technology adoption, and helping operating business units evaluate the tax implications of business activities and transactions.
  • Manage responses to federal, state, and local tax audits, notices, and information requests, working closely with external advisors and internal departments.
  • Review tax journal entries and monthly account reconciliations.
  • Maintain strong documentation, internal controls, and tax calendars to ensure compliance with statutory deadlines and company policies.
  • Supervise, train, and develop tax staff by assigning work, reviewing deliverables, providing feedback, and supporting professional growth.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelors in Accounting / Finance or equivalent degree required
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
  • 7–9 years of progressive corporate tax experience, with some public accounting strongly preferred.
  • Strong U.S. federal and state corporate tax compliance and accounting knowledge, with sound judgment in researching, interpreting, and applying complex tax rules.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex tax matters to tax and non-tax audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a complex corporate environment.
  • Strong attention to accuracy, controls, and documentation.
  • Leadership skills in coaching, reviewing work, and developing team members.
