At Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), our website serves as a critical connection point between our customers, products, solutions, and mission to make electric power safer, more reliable, and more economical. The User Experience Designer helps shape intuitive, accessible, and engaging digital experiences that enable customers find information, solve problems, and interact with SEL. Working closely with designers, developers, content writers, business stakeholders, and other cross-functional teams, this role applies user-centered design principles, research, wireframing, prototyping, and visual design to create experiences that support customer needs while advancing the SEL brand and business objectives. This position offers opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute to meaningful work that supports critical infrastructure around the world.
A typical day as an Associate User Experience Designer might include :
- Assisting in the development of products with world-class user experience
- Participating in an environment of open collaboration, critique, and communication
- Utilizing basic application of user experience design and validation principles & techniques, basic application of visual design and communications principles & techniques, and basic level of participation with user experience research
- Work under close supervision, following established procedures.
- Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles
This job might be for you if:
- You possess a BA/BS degree in interaction, graphic or visual communications design, human computer interaction, or a related field
- You have basic experience with graphic design, interaction design and display design principles
- You have basic experience with the methodologies and techniques of user experience design
- You have basic understanding of user experience research methods.
- You have strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
- You have the ability to learn new skills, assume new responsibilities, and learn sophisticated problem domains
It is a plus if you have:
- An MA or MS degree in interaction, graphic or visual communications design, human computer interaction, or a related field.
- Experience with UX design in sophisticated problem domains.
- Experience with UX design in a business-to-business environment.

Pay Range Data: $ 82,000 - $122,900 annually
We set starting pay based on job-related factors such as your experience, training, knowledge, and skills. We are looking to fill this position at the Associate User Experience Designer level, and we welcome applicants with a range of experience. Depending on your background, we may consider you for a different level, with compensation aligned accordingly.
