• A&D is a brand-new team at Temper. For years, data and automation responsibilities have been scattered across the organisation. Most of the data side responsibilities have lied with the analytics engineer, while several other people elsewhere in the business were responsible for analyses and automations within their own domain. But there is a focus shift going on from traditional analyst work to enabling the business to fully utilise AI and its potential. Team A&D will be formed to centralise that work into one team with a real mandate and roadmap. And to go beyond it!

📅 What You’ll Be Doing on a Typical Workday

Define what A&D actually needs across three areas

Data infrastructure - govern and improve the infrastructure that transforms data from a multitude of sources into usable assets

Data activation & development - design self-serving BI landscape (currently in Looker), owning the semantic layer, and getting new data and data products into use

Automation - helping every team at Temper automate manual work, and driving the company's AI-native ambition more broadly. The responsibility is end to end, from identifying manual operations to prioritisation, solution design and implementation

Plot the workload into roles and hire into those roles once they're defined

Once the team exists, work out whether the data/automation work already happening in pockets of the business today has a natural home in it

Set the team's own way of working to be AI-native from day one — this team should be a proof point for how Temper works with AI, not just a function that occasionally uses it

• 👥 The Team
• You won't inherit a team — you'll build one. That's the point of this role, not a gap in it: Temper deliberately chose to define A&D's scope first, rather than back into a structure built around whoever happened to be doing data-adjacent work already — the specific roles are yours to define. You'll report into the CFO, and work directly with people across Commercial, Marketing, Support, Product, and Finance from day one, since A&D's mandate touches all of them.

🎯 What makes you a great fit

Experience building or substantially restructuring a small technical team. From hiring and defining roles to growing and managing your existing team.

Solid technical grounding in a modern data stack (a warehouse like BigQuery, a transformation tool like Dataform or DBT, BI tooling like Looker). As Lead of a team that stays lean, expect to be hands-on yourself on a regular basis — this isn't a role where you only direct other people's implementation work.

Real enthusiasm for AI/LLM tooling (we use Claude) as something that changes what a data team should look like, not a nice-to-have bolted on afterwards.

Comfortable operating with genuine ambiguity. This covers the shape of the team, its roles, and how existing roles within the business fit into it.

Strong stakeholder management. You'll be dealing with requests and priorities from nearly every function in the company.

A track record of actually shipping things end to end — this role is as much about getting projects over the line as designing them.

A real sense for data governance — guardrails, access control, and traceability aren't optional at the scale AI lets a small team operate at.

Fluent English. Dutch is a bonus, not a must.

Great to have:

Prior experience starting up or restructuring a data/analytics function specifically.

Experience with GCP and with AI/agent tooling in a real production/business context.

Experience managing a remote team.
