As the Autonomy Systems Engineering Specialist , you will be responsible for serving as a key technical feature owner for Autonomy Drill products and Driver Safety System product. This role bridges business, product, and engineering teams by translating customer and product requirements into actionable features and user stories for Agile development teams. The successful candidate will define system architecture, support software and subsystem design, and collaborate with cross-functional global teams to deliver innovative autonomy mining solutions. This position combines systems engineering, software engineering, technical leadership, project coordination, and individual contributor responsibilities within a fast-paced, cutting-edge technology environment.

This position requires the selected individual to work onsite at the Laval, QC office.
What You Will Do:
- Partner with business and product teams to understand customer challenges, business objectives, and value propositions.
- Translate requirements into product features, epics, and user stories for Agile software delivery team.
- Identify user personas and ensure solutions are designed to deliver an optimal user experience.
- Define and maintain system architecture, subsystem interfaces, and high-level software designs.
- Ensure functional and non-functional requirements are addressed, including safety, compliance, reliability, and performance requirements.
- Collaborate with UX/UI designers to develop mockups and user-centered feature designs.
- Coordinate defect triage and resolution planning with product, business, and engineering stakeholders.
- Facilitate planning activities with software architects and technical leads to support end-to-end solution development.
- Apply Agile development principles, including incremental value delivery, MVP approaches, and INVEST user story practices.
- Participate in technical reviews, architecture assessments, and DFMEA activities to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
- Support cross-functional engineering teams in resolving complex technical challenges.
- Work closely with global teams across North America, India, and other regions to align product development efforts and customer experience strategies.
- Provide technical leadership and guide solution development under the direction of the Project Solution Owner and Engineering Manager.
- Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.
What You Have (Basic Requirements):
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Fluency in English and French (both written and spoken) is preferred to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders and ensure accurate interpretation of information.
- Communicating Complex Concepts: Knowledge of effective presentation tools and techniques to ensure clear understanding; ability to use summarization and simplification techniques to explain complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience.
- Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
- Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
- Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
- Strategic Thinking: Knowledge of the importance of "big picture" thinking and planning; ability to apply organizational acumen and competitiveness to identify and maintain focus on key success factors for the organization.
- Influencing through Expertise: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization.
- Software Product Design/Architecture: Knowledge of software product design; ability to convert market requirements into the software product design.
- Artificial Intelligence: Knowledge of the concepts, technologies and methodologies of artificial intelligence (AI); ability to develop, implement and/or apply artificial intelligence products and services in specific industry domain to achieve business goals.
What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications):
- Previous experience with autonomous systems, mining technologies, or industrial automation platforms.
- Previous experience with GPS positioning technologies, IP networking, Wi-Fi, LTE, and wireless communications.
- Previous experience with embedded software development and software-intensive systems.
- Knowledge of systems architecture, software design, and end-to-end solution development.
- Previous experience conducting DFMEA, system-level risk assessments, and architecture reviews.
- Familiarity with user experience (UX) design processes and user-centered product development.
- Availability to support meetings across global time zones, including India and Australia.
- Previous experience working in global, matrixed engineering organizations.
