The role will partner closely with Financial Reporting, Actuarial, FP&A, Business Development, and other cross-functional teams to ensure that accounting positions are well-supported, clearly documented, and consistently applied across the organization.

The position will play a central role in monitoring and evaluating the impact of emerging accounting standards, advising senior leadership on complex accounting matters, including potential M&A and business development activity, and supporting the design and documentation of accounting policies that reflect the Company's business model and regulatory obligations. The role requires a strong working knowledge of technical accounting literature, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to translate complex accounting guidance into clear, actionable conclusions for a broad range of stakeholders.

This role is well-suited for a highly motivated accounting professional with a strong technical foundation, a passion for research and policy development, and the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, multi-framework reporting environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical accounting research on complex and judgmental accounting matters across US GAAP, NAIC Statutory, Bermuda regulatory, and other applicable frameworks, including insurance-specific guidance (e.g., ASC 944, SSAP standards).
  • Prepare and maintain high-quality accounting policy position papers, technical memos, and white papers that document the Company's accounting conclusions and support external audit and regulatory review.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and communicate the impact of new and emerging accounting standards (e.g., FASB, NAIC, and other standard-setter pronouncements) on the Company's financial statements, reporting processes, and internal policies.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve the Company's accounting policy library, ensuring policies are current, well-organized, consistently applied, and aligned with applicable authoritative guidance.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to Financial Reporting, Actuarial, FP&A, Business Development, and other business partners on accounting treatment for new products, investment structures, transactions, and business initiatives.
  • Support the evaluation and documentation of non-routine and complex transactions, including reinsurance arrangements, investment structures, business combinations, and intercompany transactions.
  • Partner with external auditors on technical accounting matters, including the preparation of supporting documentation and position papers to facilitate efficient audit resolution.
  • Contribute to Board and Audit Committee reporting materials on significant accounting judgments, policy changes, and the impact of new standards.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of financial statement disclosures to ensure compliance with applicable accounting and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to junior team members on technical research methodologies, documentation standards, and accounting policy frameworks, supporting their professional development.
  • Support the execution of internal controls related to accounting policy and technical accounting processes, including compliance with J-SOX requirements.
