  • Be One Child's Steady Person: 1:1
  • Behavioral Aide, K–2
  • The Schoolhouse | South Burlington, VT | Full-time, In person | $23–$28 per hour
  • The job in a nutshell
  • One of our K–2 students needs a dedicated adult at their side all day, and we'd love that adult to
  • be you. You'll help this child feel secure, get through the hard moments, and take on a little more
  • on their own each week. You'll work from a plan built with the teacher, specialists, and family, so
  • you won't be figuring it out alone.
  • What your days look like:
  • ● Follow the student's behavior and learning plan, and tell the team what's working and
  • what isn't.
  • ● Coach calming, communication, and coping skills in the moment, wherever they come
  • up: classroom, playground, lunch line, hallway.
  • ● Step back as soon as the student is ready, so they get the credit for doing it themselves.
  • ● Help with personal care and physical needs when the student requires it.
  • ● Check in often with the teacher and family so everyone is working from the same page.
  • ● Be there for lunch, recess, and transitions, alongside the student's classmates.
  • Who we hope to meet:
  • ● You stay calm when things get loud, and you're still warm on a hard day.
  • ● You like young kids and can be playful, firm, and fair, sometimes all in one minute.
  • ● You're curious about new strategies and happy to be coached.
  • ● You can handle the physical side of the work, including lifting when a student needs
  • support.
  • ● You see families as partners.
  • ● Experience with behavior support, special education, or early education is great. Good
  • judgment and a good heart matter more.

Why the Schoolhouse

  • The Schoolhouse is a progressive independent school with a focus on nature-based education
  • and innovative learning. Children spend real time outdoors, and teachers are encouraged to try
  • new ideas. You'll be treated as a real member of the team, with regular check-ins and room to
  • grow.
  • Pay and perks
  • ● Pay: $23–$28 per hour
  • ● Generous paid time off
  • ● Free telehealth
  • ● Dental and vision coverage
  • ● Retirement plan and professional development
