Who We Are
Established by Black and Latina activists in 1984, the Violence Intervention Program (VIP) is NYC’s only culturally specific organization with a mission to address domestic and sexual violence within Latine communities. Each year, we provide intensive support and services to 3,500+ survivors and children and reach 15,000+ community members through community events and preventive education. We are committed to developing innovative programs that respond to the needs of our diverse community and reflect our organizational values.
What We Offer
As an organization led by and for people of color and survivors of violence, we care deeply about our team’s wellness. We offer unlimited PTO and flexible work schedules, a hybrid workplace, health benefits coverage up to 90% for staff and their families, a 403(b) retirement plan, a staff-led wellness committee, time to play and laugh together, and more.
We are a work in progress and welcome input from our team as we continue building an affirming and uplifting workplace.
A Great Fit
This is an excellent opportunity for a bilingual clinician who is passionate about supporting survivors of sexual and gender-based violence through trauma-informed, culturally responsive care.
As a Social Worker with VIP’s Sexual Violence Program, you’ll provide short-term individual counseling, advocacy, safety planning, and trauma-focused group support. You’ll also collaborate with colleagues and community partners to strengthen survivors’ access to services and contribute to education and outreach around sexual violence and its impact on Latine communities.
What You’ll Do
Provide trauma-informed, strength-based individual counseling, advocacy, emotional support, and safety planning to survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.
Co-facilitate trauma-focused support groups and use evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), as appropriate.
Connect survivors with legal, mental health, parenting, bilingual, and other community resources through collaboration with internal and external partners.
Provide community education and workshops and represent VIP at meetings, conferences, task forces, and public events.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and program data, and support reporting, program evaluation, and quality improvement efforts.
Collaborate across VIP programs and within multidisciplinary teams to strengthen sexual violence services and ensure comprehensive, culturally responsive care.
Specific Job Requirements
Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field, with at least one year of post-graduate clinical experience.
LMSW, LMHC, or ability to obtain licensure within one year of hire.
Fluency in English and Spanish, both verbal and written, is required.
Experience providing trauma-informed counseling to survivors of violence and facilitating groups, workshops, or trainings.
Knowledge of evidence-based and empowerment-focused practices; familiarity with CPT or other trauma-focused interventions is preferred.
Strong communication, clinical documentation, organizational, and collaboration skills.
Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound clinical judgment.
Commitment to social justice, anti-violence work, and culturally responsive services for diverse, immigrant, and Latine communities.
Ability to travel locally as needed.
If you’re excited about this opportunity but don’t meet every qualification listed, we still encourage you to apply. We value transferable skills, a willingness to learn, and the different experiences candidates bring to their work.
