About This Role
As the Biogen Intercontinental Region Medical Lead, Nephrology, you will provide strategic medical leadership across the nephrology portfolio, connecting Global/PDC strategy with the needs and insights of affiliates across the BIR Region. You will shape regional medical strategy across assets at different stages of the lifecycle, with a strong focus on pipeline development, launch readiness, evidence generation, and medical execution.
You will serve as a key medical partner to affiliates and cross-functional teams, ensuring regional perspectives, evolving standards of care, stakeholder needs, and evidence gaps inform global plans. You will also build strong relationships with medical experts, healthcare organizations, scientific societies, and other external stakeholders to advance medical priorities and improve patient outcomes.
What You'll Do
- Lead regional medical strategy and execution across the TA portfolio, ensuring affiliate needs, stakeholder insights, evidence requirements, and evolving standards of care are reflected in Global/PDC plans, evidence generation, launch readiness, and lifecycle management activities.
- Provide regional medical leadership and input to clinical development, evidence generation, publication planning, lifecycle management, and launch activities.
- Lead or support key regional medical initiatives, including advisory boards, medical education, scientific communications, and collaborative research activities.
- Partner with affiliates and cross-functional colleagues across Medical, Commercial, CE&O, Corporate Affairs, and Value & Access to ensure a consistent medical voice and coordinated execution across the Region.
- Identify evidence, access, and patient journey gaps across the Region and provide strategic recommendations to address unmet needs and optimize patient outcomes.
- Build and maintain partnerships with key medical experts, healthcare providers, affiliates, and external stakeholders, including healthcare organizations, scientific societies, and patient advocacy groups, to generate insights that inform regional strategy, evidence generation, and medical execution and advance regional medical priorities.
- Support the development and execution of regional medical plans, ensuring alignment with Global/PDC priorities across evidence generation, launch readiness, medical education, and scientific engagement activities.
- Partner with Clinical Development, Operations, and Global/PDC teams to integrate regional perspectives into development programs, site engagement strategies, and evidence generation plans.
- Lead regional medical training and scientific communication initiatives, ensuring a consistent understanding and application of the therapeutic area scientific narrative across affiliates and cross-functional partners.
Who You Are
You are an experienced Medical Affairs leader with strong scientific and clinical expertise and the ability to translate complex nephrology science into clear medical strategy and impactful execution. You understand how medical priorities evolve across the product lifecycle, from pipeline development and evidence generation through launch readiness and lifecycle management.
You are a strong connector who can operate effectively across global, regional, and affiliate teams and influence stakeholders in a complex matrix environment. You bring credibility in external scientific engagement and can develop trusted relationships with medical experts, healthcare professionals, scientific organizations, and other key stakeholders.
You are strategic while remaining execution-focused, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and able to adapt to changing priorities. You communicate complex scientific topics clearly, demonstrate strong cultural awareness, and collaborate effectively across functions and geographies.
Required Skills
- Advanced scientific or medical degree required: MD, PhD, or PharmD.
- Minimum of 10 years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience, preferably including Medical Affairs and/or Medical leadership experience.
- Strong nephrology expertise and understanding of the relevant scientific, clinical, and treatment landscape.
- Experience working at both affiliate and above-market level, supporting multiple countries or markets within a regional or global environment.
- Experience developing and executing Medical Affairs strategies across pipeline, launch, and established stages of the product lifecycle.
- Demonstrated experience supporting medical launch readiness, evidence generation, and scientific engagement.
- Proven ability to translate regional and affiliate insights into global medical strategy, clinical development, and evidence-generation plans.
- Strong ability to influence and collaborate across global, regional, affiliate, and cross-functional stakeholders within a matrix organization.
- Demonstrated ability to establish productive relationships with external medical experts and scientific stakeholders.
- Excellent scientific communication, presentation, stakeholder engagement, strategic thinking, and organizational skills.
