Description

At Buffalo Construction, we believe great projects start with great relationships.

We're looking for an experienced, relationship-driven Business Development professional who enjoys opening new doors, building meaningful connections, and turning opportunities into lasting partnerships.

This position will support Buffalo's continued growth by developing new client relationships, identifying opportunities, and helping expand our presence in new markets nationwide. A key focus will be light industrial construction and larger commercial projects in the $10M to $50M range.

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Projects and the Director of Marketing, this teammate will work together with Marketing, the Strategic Business Unit, and Preconstruction to align business development efforts with Buffalo's strategic priorities. Together, these teams will identify target markets, evaluate opportunities, and determine which projects to pursue.

What You'll Do

Develop Relationships & New Business

  • Proactively identify and build relationships with prospective clients, developers, property owners, national and regional brands, architects, and strategic partners.
  • Develop new business opportunities within targeted markets, particularly light industrial and larger commercial construction projects.
  • Represent Buffalo at industry events, conferences, networking opportunities, and client meetings nationwide.
  • Strengthen existing client relationships while prioritizing new clients and project opportunities.

Collaborate & Pursue Opportunities

  • Work closely with Marketing, the Strategic Business Unit, and Preconstruction to understand business development priorities and receive guidance on prospective opportunities.
  • Participate in strategic planning discussions to align outreach and relationship-building efforts with Buffalo's growth objectives.
  • Research prospective clients and projects, gathering information to help teams evaluate potential opportunities.
  • Support pursuit efforts through client meetings, proposals, presentations, and follow-up activities.
  • Maintain proactive, transparent communication to ensure all teams remain informed and aligned throughout the pursuit process.

Manage the CRM & Business Development Pipeline

  • Own and maintain an accurate, organized, and up-to-date CRM system.
  • Consistently document client interactions, opportunities, commitments, and next steps.
  • Ensure timely follow-up with prospective clients and strategic partners.
  • Partner with Marketing to monitor pipeline activity, track progress, and identify opportunities requiring attention.
  • Provide regular updates on relationship development, qualified opportunities, and pursuit activities.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience in business development, client relationship management, or strategic account development.
  • Commercial construction knowledge strongly preferred, including familiarity with project development and the construction pursuit process.
  • Demonstrated success building new relationships and identifying business opportunities.
  • Excellent communication, networking, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to documentation, follow-up, and CRM management.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to accept guidance, communicate transparently, and work effectively across departments.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and accountable, with the ability to balance independent relationship-building with team priorities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationwide approximately 25–50% of the time.

Compensation & Benefits

At Buffalo Construction, we believe in taking care of our teammates and recognizing the contributions they make to our success.

Compensation

  • Annual salary + commission based on experience and qualifications.
  • Eligibility for an annual performance-based bonus tied to individual contributions, strategic objectives, and company performance.

  • 401(k) retirement plan with 4% company match.
  • Open PTO policy.
  • Phone and technology allowance.
  • Life and disability insurance.
  • Professional development and continuing education opportunities.
  • Company vehicle.

Work Environment

  • Primarily based in our Louisville, Kentucky Support Center.
  • Nationwide travel anticipated at approximately 25–50%.
  • Close collaboration with Marketing, the Strategic Business Unit, and Preconstruction.
