C++ Software Engineer (m/f/d) Platform Infrastructure

The Robotics & Mechatronics Teams at Agile Robots are looking for a C++ Software Engineer (m/f/d) Platform Infrastructure , who will help build and maintain the C++ platform infrastructure our robot runs on. You will help us ensure it runs reliably and safely once it is out of the lab and in production.

Responsibilities

Platform Development: Develop and maintain modern C++ software components for the robot's Linux-based platform infrastructure.

Communication & IPC: Build and maintain the IPC and communication interfaces that connect robot applications, backend services, and hardware-facing components.

Debugging & Diagnostics: Debug concurrency, timing, memory, performance, and system-integration issues across the platform.

Testing Infrastructure: Build unit, integration, and hardware-oriented test infrastructure for platform components.

Reliability & Observability: Improve system reliability through better diagnostics, logging, fault handling, and recovery mechanisms.

Hardware Integration: Test and integrate software on real robotic hardware, working with firmware, control, backend, QA, and DevOps engineers when problems cross those boundaries.

Essential Skills

Background: Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, with initial professional experience building production C++ software, typically up to about three years and excluding internships or working-student positions.

Modern C++: Hands-on experience writing C++ using modern practices (C++17/C++20), gained through professional work, internships, or substantial project experience.

Systems Programming: Working understanding of Linux system programming — processes, threads, synchronization, IPC, and sockets — along with asynchronous programming concepts.

Debugging: Practical debugging experience using tools such as GDB, sanitizers (ASan/TSan/UBSan), or Valgrind, applied to problems that span multiple interacting software or hardware components.

Testing: Experience writing automated tests with frameworks such as GoogleTest, including meaningful unit and integration test coverage.

Beneficial Skills

Robotics & Industrial Background: Experience with robotics, industrial automation, or embedded systems, including industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT, CAN, or similar.

Hardware-in-the-Loop Testing: Experience with hardware-in-the-loop, simulation, fault-injection, or other automated system-testing approaches.

Embedded Linux: Experience with real-time or performance-sensitive Linux systems, or with the deployment side of embedded Linux.

Python Tooling: Experience using Python for testing, automation, or developer tooling.

AI-Assisted Development: Experience using AI-assisted development tools, combined with critically reviewing and validating the generated output.
