Cable Routing Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a meticulous and proactive Cable Routing Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This role will be responsible for the design, coordination and optimisation of cable routing solutions across a range of projects, ensuring compliance with technical standards and project requirements.

Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, efficient and cost-effective cable routing designs that support safe and reliable operation.

Key Responsibilities

• •Develop cable routing layouts and detailed designs in line with project specifications and industry standards
• •Produce and review cable routing drawings, including tray layouts, ladder systems and conduit runs
• •Ensure all routing designs consider installation feasibility, maintainability and health & safety requirements
• •Collaborate with electrical, mechanical and project engineering teams to integrate routing solutions
• •Carry out cable segregation studies and ensure compliance with relevant standards and best practice
• •Support the preparation of material take-offs and input into procurement processes
• •Resolve technical queries and provide design support throughout the project lifecycle
• •Attend design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
• •Maintain accurate documentation and revision control of engineering deliverables

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong technical background alongside excellent attention to detail and communication skills.

Essential:

• •Experience in cable routing, layout design or a similar electrical engineering function
• •Familiarity with cable containment systems (tray, ladder, trunking, conduit, etc.)
• •Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and standards
• •Proficiency with CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, EPLAN or similar)
• •Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
• •A collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively within a team

Desirable:

• •Experience within power generation, energy, oil & gas or industrial sectors
• •Knowledge of relevant standards (e.g. BS, IEC or equivalent)
• •Understanding of cable sizing, routing optimisation and installation constraints
• •HNC/HND or degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
