CDI Optimization Specialist

Description

Sage Clinical RCM is seeking a CDI Optimization Specialist to lead the workforce, productivity and regional operations workstream for a large enterprise CDI transformation. This role will convert facility-level demand and performance data into a practical staffing model, consistent productivity expectations and sustainable regional operating routines.

The initial assignment supports a planned October 15, 2026 through October 14, 2028 engagement, with core implementation targeted by Month 18 and transition and sustainability work continuing through Month 24. Project allocation will vary by phase, and the successful candidate may support related Sage client work as capacity allows.

What you will do

· Inventory staffing, schedules, vacancies, organizational structure and work distribution across corporate, regional and local CDI teams.

· Analyze initial and subsequent review volumes, productivity, coverage, backlog and case complexity; reconcile variation before recommending targets.

· Build demand-based staffing models and coverage scenarios that identify duplication, avoidable handoffs and opportunities for regional load balancing.

· Redesign review sequencing and prioritization in partnership with the clinical and workflow specialists.

· Implement approved productivity scorecards, coaching thresholds and escalation routines, and train managers to use the tools consistently.

· Support regional coverage changes while monitoring physician query burden and downstream effects on coding and pre-bill teams.

· Maintain evidence supporting executive staffing decisions and recommend corrective action when quality, coverage or workload stability is at risk.

Requirements

Required qualifications

· Active RN license or another relevant clinical license.

· At least three years of clinical documentation integrity experience.

· CCDS, CDIP or CCS credential.

· Demonstrated skill in Excel analysis, CDI workqueue interpretation and workflow improvement.

· Ability to explain staffing assumptions clearly and coach operational leaders through change.

Preferred qualifications

· Multi-facility CDI management experience.

· Epic reporting or workflow experience.
