Description

Sushic, LLC, an affiliated company of Tokyo Gardens Company, is a Houston-based company providing full-service sushi and Asian food operations in retail stores, universities and corporate offices nationwide for over 20 years. Our company is growing rapidly, and every team member plays a key role in that growth. Our success is driven by delivering real results for our clients. It's also enabled by our culture, which supports personal growth and development, fosters an inclusive work culture, and rewards innovation and excellence.

The Sushic Operations Chef provides hands-on support to the Catering and Kitchen team, assisting with event preparation, concession operations, and daily kitchen production across our catering and direct-store-delivery (DSD) programs. We are looking for a dependable chef with foundational sushi and kitchen skills who can follow established procedures, take ownership of assigned work, and assist with high-end Omakase experiences and priority daytime orders under the guidance of senior culinary staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Event Preparation Support: Assist with day-to-day prep for catering events, including ingredient portioning, basic fish breakdown, sauce and garnish prep, and packing according to established recipes and Head Chef instructions.
  • Concession Operations: Support the local concession programs at local convention centers by maintaining stock levels, preparing ingredients, and following operational checklists provided by management.
  • Omakase & Event Support: Provide secondary support during Omakase and live sushi events, helping set up work stations, prepping ingredients, and assisting senior chefs on-site.
  • Kitchen & Hot Food Prep: Execute assigned prep tasks for hot food and specialty menu items during peak seasons under the direction of the Lead Chef.
  • DSD & Delivery Execution: Fulfill assigned direct-store-delivery (DSD) and daytime tray orders, following standard portioning and presentation guidelines to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Inventory Tracking : Assist with daily inventory counts and report low ingredient levels or stock shortages to the Head Chef.
  • Food Safety & Quality Control: Follow standard food safety, sanitation, and temperature-control protocols to keep work areas, tools, and storage areas clean and organized.
  • Team Collaboration: Model active teamwork, communicate clearly with kitchen peers, and ask clarifying questions to ensure tasks are completed accurately.
  • General Support: Assist with storefront openings and perform other routine kitchen duties as assigned.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience in a kitchen, prep, or line cook role within catering, sushi, or food service environments. Omakase experience is a plus.
  • Foundational knife skills and basic familiarity with sushi prep, fish handling, or kitchen workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow standard operating procedures, operate in a fast paced kitchen environment, complete assigned tasks thoroughly, and communicate effectively with team members and clients.
  • Experience in concession, event, or high-volume production kitchens preferred.
  • Must maintain neat grooming and a professional appearance for client-facing service.
  • Comfortable working in varied kitchen environments (walk-in coolers, hot prep lines) and working nights/weekends as needed for event schedules.
  • Food Handler certification required.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and travel to local event sites as needed.
  • Basic written and verbal English communication; basic computer literacy.
  • Basic computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PPT).

Benefits

  • Base salary + commission
  • Paid Time Off
  • Paid health benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Short Term Disability insurance)
  • 401k plan with company match
  • Annual bonus incentive

Additional Information
