Summary

This position is located with FMWR Sports, Fitness, & Aquatics on Fort Wainwright, AK. Incentives and Bonuses Incentives may be paid. Up to 25% recruitment or relocation and/or retention incentive may be paid (service agreement required). Recruitment incentives are applicable to newly hired individuals/rehired individuals. Relocation incentives are applicable to current, regular full-time NAF employees.

Duties

  • Develops and implements programs to accommodate wide interest for the community in both fitness and sports activities and provides specific guidance regarding development of new programs to facility managers.
  • Develops Standard Operating Procedures, and memorandums regarding special sports events and coordinates equipment, facility, transportation, and other sports event administrative support needs with appropriate base operation support personnel.
  • Performs the full range of supervisory duties over assigned staff.
  • Coordinates budget requirements with subordinate supervisors and provides general guidance for preparation of the annual operating budget.
  • Provides technical advice to subordinate managers regarding budget execution.

Qualifications

Resumes must be two pages (or less). Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities as they pertain to this position. A qualified candidate must possess the following: Progressive experience that demonstrates the ability to plan, supervise, administer or carry out fitness, sports and aquatics programs that include a variety of individuals and team sports and events; and ability to manage staff that guide participants in developing the skills for participation in sports, fitness, and aquatics activities. The related work experience must have been equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower level. In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified": Possess a four-year degree in physical education or equivalent and directly related work experience as indicated above. *If you are using your education to meet this highly preferred criteria, you must submit your transcripts with your application. Possess at least one (1) year of experience managing NAF (Non-Appropriated Fund) and/or APF (Appropriated Fund) budgets, including tracking labor costs, procurement, and executing financial plans for recreation programs. Possess at least two (2) years of experience successfully directing, planning, budgeting, or managing multi-facility physical fitness, athletic, or aquatic programs. Possess at least one (1) year of experience initiating, reviewing, or coordinating facility repairs, modifications, and structural work requirements with Public Works (DPW) or engineering departments. Possess at least one (1) year of experience drafting, coordinating, or administering contracts for fitness instructors, sports officials, lifeguards, or external recreational services. Possess highly specialized active certifications, specifically a Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (LGIT) certificate, a Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT) certificate, or a nationally recognized Personal Trainer/Group Fitness Director credential. *Certification must be uploaded with your application so support.
