This position plays a pivotal role in multiple core functional areas such as accelerating administrative functions in GUMC Advancement, serving as a key liaison with the EVP’s office, assisting the VP for GUMC Advancement in the day-to-day oversight of the GUMC Advancement team’s activities, and managing the team’s budget oversight and spending discretion.
The Chief of Staff will also serve as the primary Clinical Patient Navigator for the newly established "GUMC GPS" program, providing white-glove, concierge-level support for referred patients into the GUMC/MedStar Health partnership. This role also oversees the financial and compliance integrity of the Medical Center’s current use and endowed philanthropic funds, working closely with GUMC’s EVP’s office, advancement leadership, school and unit senior business managers (SBMs), and academic department heads to ensure philanthropic dollars are financially stewarded with precision and transparency. Lastly, with alignment and direction from the VP, this role leads the planning and execution of GUMC Advancement initiatives and special projects that are a strategic priority for GUMC. This work will include communicating project details, building and tracking against timelines, and raising challenges to both internal and external stakeholders to ensure progress is achieved. A successful candidate possesses exceptional diplomatic skills, financial acumen, and the ability to operate in a high-stakes, confidential environment.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Serve as the Chief of Staff and strategic advisor to the VP for GUMC Advancement, and key operational driver for GUMC Advancement priorities and day-to-day oversight; lead cross-functional strategic initiatives, and ensure high-priority business goals are effectively executed.
- Serve as the primary Clinical Patient Navigator for the newly established GUMC GPS program.
- Oversee financial stewardship and compliance for GUMC current use and endowed philanthropic funds.
- Lead the planning and execution of initiatives and special projects as directed by the VP for GUMC Advancement.
Work Interactions
This position integrates complex administrative, financial, and patient-navigation workflows within the Office of the Executive Vice President to support GUMC's operational and strategic goals. The role reports directly to the GUMC VP of Advancement and maintains a dotted reporting line to the Managing Director of GUMC Operations and Strategic Engagement for the initial GPS program launch. The role interfaces extensively with MedStar clinical staff, GUMC department heads, advancement leadership, senior business managers, and Faculty Affairs.
