Position Summary

The Medical Assistant is responsible for supporting physicians and nursing staff by preparing patients for clinical visits, obtaining vital signs, performing venipuncture, documenting patient information, and ensuring a positive patient experience throughout their cancer care journey. This role plays a critical part in delivering compassionate, high-quality oncology care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and prepare patients for clinic visits.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, and other clinical information.
  • Perform venipuncture and collect laboratory specimens as ordered.
  • Properly label and process laboratory specimens.
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms, ensuring adequate supplies and cleanliness.
  • Document patient information accurately within the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Support quality initiatives, including CMS Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) documentation.
  • Assist with scheduling, appointment verification, patient check-in, and other administrative support functions.
  • Provide phone coverage and support clinic operations as needed.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to patients, families, and colleagues.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Current Medical Assistant certification
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment

Preferred

  • Oncology or specialty clinic experience
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience
  • Phlebotomy and venipuncture experience
