Summary
About the Position: The incumbent serves as the Clinical Psychologist within the Mental Health Department at a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) within the area of responsibility. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation
Duties
- Review treatment appropriateness, approves referral sources, and coordinates agreements across MTF clinics.
- Monitor, evaluate, and authorize use of community mental health resources.
- Serve as on call provider, assessing severity and recommending hospitalization or higher-level care.
- Coordinate safety plans with patients, families, and command in alignment with privacy regulations.
- Ensure continuity of care with SUDCC, FAP, and external agencies.
- Advise command on personnel management, duty limitations, prognosis, and risk issues (suicidality/homicidality).
- Direct level of care determinations, hospitalization recommendations, safety planning, and coordination across MTF and partner agencies.
- Advises command on readiness, duty limitations, prognosis, and management of high risk behavioral health cases.
- Provides consultation regarding interpretation and approval of outcome measures and screening instruments.
- Monitors risk management issues and takes appropriate action.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Clinical Psychologist (Mental Health): Degree: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes directing clinical crisis and level of care decisions; providing high risk behavioral health and command consultation; and overseeing risk management, outcome measures, and continuity of care across internal and external agencies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS 12). License: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently, offered by a U.S State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. (NOTE: You MUST attach a copy of your license.)

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
