Collegiate Summer Internship - For 18 Year-olds to Pre-College Graduate

Summer Interns are an important part of giving MeySen Academy students more exposure to the English language. The role of the Intern can be anywhere from playing and speaking with our students, to classroom activity preparation, and helping at our events. This opportunity is often utilized by a U.S. college student looking for an un-paid, summertime internship. Over the years, several of our Interns have even returned to MeySen Academy and become fulltime English teachers, upon graduating university!

Dates: Mid / late-May (or early-June) to mid-August

Qualifications:

Native English speaker

High school graduate or college/university student (18 to 25 years old)

Mature, driven and able to self-direct

Experience working with children

Able to perform physical requirements within the everyday playtime and outdoor activities; both on and off campus

Job Summary:

Be involved in speaking English to the children both in the classroom and on the playground

Assist the classroom teachers in class preparations, playtime, programs, Etc.

Assist and participate in activities to improve the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of children

Although this is an unpaid Internship, the school will provide the following:

Housing - A fully-furnished apartment that is within a fifteen-minute walk to the school.

Meals - Lunch is provided, most working weekdays (Monday ~ Friday) while school is in session - This is a Japanese-style bento, the same that we order for our kindergarten students and teachers. Other meals are subsidized with a grocery stipend that the school provides. All food / meals beyond this (such as eating out at restaurants, purchasing snacks, etc), would be paid with the Intern's personal spending money.

Ground Transportation - The school provides ground transportation between the Japanese airport and the apartment, on the day of arrival and the departure date (these dates need to be discussed before purchasing your flight, so that we can arrange transportation).

The Intern is responsible for:

Their round trip airfare to and from Japan (Amount Varies)

Travel insurance for any medical needs (Amount Varies)

Spending money (Minimum of $500)

NOTE: The typical amount an Intern can expect to spend for this summer long opportunity is anywhere between $2,000 to $3,000. Of course, this fluctuates depending on the cost of the flight and travel insurance.

Internship Availability & Duration:

Length of Internship 60~90 days

Preference is given to those interns who can arrive mid to late May

Approximate dates of Internship: May 20th to August 10th

* If the Intern decides to stay longer in Japan (for example, to travel within Japan before their departure), additional days may be added after the completion of the internship. Note: If selected to participate in this program, and you would like to choose this option, please discuss this with the school prior to purchasing a flight to Japan.
