The Opportunity

At APA, our purpose is to secure Australia’s energy future. We’re not doing it alone. We’re doing it with our customers and communities as Australia’s energy infrastructure partner, a role our unique experience and expertise positions us to play.

We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Communications Business Partner to join our Sustainability and Corporate Affairs team in our Melbourne or Sydney office on a permanent full-time basis.

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Communications, you will partner with senior leaders across some of APA's most strategically important corporate portfolios, including Finance, Strategy & Technology and Legal, Governance & Regulation, delivering strategic communications and employee engagement initiatives that support business performance, transformation and organisational priorities.

This is a highly visible business partnering role where you'll work closely with Group Executives and leadership teams, providing trusted advice, shaping communication strategies and helping leaders connect employees to APA's strategy, performance and future direction. You'll play a key role in communicating significant business initiatives, including change programs, technology adoption and employee engagement priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Group Executives and leadership teams to develop and deliver communication strategies aligned to divisional and enterprise-wide priorities.
  • Provide strategic communications counsel on major initiatives including technology adoption, AI enablement, employee engagement and organisational change.
  • Develop compelling leadership communications, including Town Halls, executive updates, key messages, speeches, articles and content across internal channels.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, influencing outcomes and providing constructive challenge to enhance communication effectiveness.
  • Work collaboratively with media, digital and broader communications teams to deliver integrated, consistent messaging across internal and external audiences.
  • Measure, evaluate and continuously improve communication outcomes, ensuring activities support employee understanding, engagement and alignment to APA's strategy.

Your background

  • Significant experience in internal communications, corporate communications or strategic communications business partnering within a complex organisation.
  • Proven ability to build credibility with senior executives and operate as a trusted adviser on high-profile and business-critical initiatives.
  • Strong strategic thinking capability, with the ability to connect multiple priorities and translate complex business topics into clear, meaningful employee communications.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting change, transformation, technology or organisational initiatives where stakeholder engagement has been critical to success.
  • Proven ability to manage competing executive priorities, navigate ambiguity and deliver outcomes in a complex, fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to challenge respectfully and drive positive business outcomes.

This role will suit a strategic communications professional who is proactive and thrives on building trusted relationships with senior leaders, influencing outcomes and connecting employees to what matters most. You will bring strong business partnering capability, sound judgement and the ability to translate complex priorities into clear, engaging communications that support transformation, engagement and organisational success.
