The Communications Manager carries out internal and external communications and marketing for Start Early Washington (SEWA) to build awareness of SEWA's work and engage potential supporters and people working in early childhood and related fields. The role creates original content that amplifies SEWA team members' thought leadership, and works across SEWA's Policy and Advocacy, Development, and Operations teams and with the national Start Early Marketing and Communications teams. This role may require some evenings and weekends and must reside in WA state.

In partnership with the Director of Development & Communication, ensure consistent and audience-appropriate messaging across all internal and external communication channels including:

Messaging and Content:

  • With the Director of Development & Communications, ensure consistent, audience-appropriate messaging and brand awareness across internal and external channels.
  • Execute a multi-channel engagement strategy to expand SEWA's reach and influence with practitioners, policymakers, advocates, and funders, using national Start Early channels and developing local and regional channels.
  • Write and edit blog posts, newsletter content, web copy, and SEWA team member bios and blog profiles, following SEO best practices; develop messages, positioning statements, one-pagers, and stories that show SEWA's role supporting Washington's children and families.
  • Prepare and execute press releases with the national Communications team; maintain press, media, funder, and prospect contact lists.

Website and Digital Assets:

  • Update and maintain SEWA web content and assets (including policy documents and Home Visiting content), and create landing pages for blog posts, events, and donation forms, in coordination with national Marketing and Communications leads.
  • Format and publish finalized policy content for the Policy and Advocacy team in a timely way.
  • Manage SEWA's HomeRoom intranet content.

Social Media and Email:

  • With the national Digital team, manage day-to-day SEWA social media, including copy, graphics, posting, community management, and tracking and measurement.
  • Build, test, send, and report on SEWA emails in Marketing Cloud and Constant Contact email marketing platform, maintain SEWA social, email, and editorial calendars in coordination with national calendars, including send spacing across Washington and national audiences (funder newsletter, WA newsletter, and backup for Notes from Olympia).

Development and Campaign Support:

  • With the Director and the SEWA Development Manager, design and produce branded digital and print materials for funder communications, events, the Donors & Funders Early Learning Circle, the Washington Fund, and future campaigns.
  • Project manage campaign asset development (timelines, outside support, feedback routing); maintain brand assets and support internal rollout of new materials (visual guide, templates, images).

Team and Operations:

  • Contribute to a collaborative, cross-team culture and support quarterly retreats and team building.
  • Support meeting coordination and project work plans as needed. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • BA/BS required. Marketing, Communications major preferred or equivalent experience
  • Must reside in Washington State; comfort working remotely.
  • Five years of experience in digital execution, including content marketing campaigns.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, including digital content and blog experience.
  • Experience building and executing emails in an email marketing platform; familiarity with content management systems; working knowledge of graphic design tools; experience executing social media posts and community management across channels.
  • Understanding of digital marketing concepts, strategies, and best practices.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, and strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills for working with a diverse range of collaborators.
  • Commitment to centering diversity, access, and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Knowledge of early childhood and social service programs, research, policy issues, and/or nonprofit organizational issues.
  • Experience with Zoom webinars, sessions, or events.
  • Marketing Cloud (formerly ExactTarget), WordPress, GA4, Adobe Creative or Canva, Constant Contact.
  • Smartsheet, Google Tag Manager, Cision, UTM tracking, and SEO experience preferred

Base Annual Salary: $73,900 - $85,000

As of the time of this posting, this is the expected base annual salary range. The base annual salary will be based on a wide range of factors, including skills, qualifications, experience, as well as business needs and limitations.
