Description

Help Girls Discover What They're Capable Of!

Do you enjoy working with children? Are you someone who loves hands-on activities, bringing people together, and making learning fun? Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines is looking for a part-time Community Engagement Specialist to bring Girl Scout programming directly to girls in our communities.

In this role, you'll spend most of your time working directly with girls, leading activities that help them build confidence, make friends, explore new interests, and discover their leadership potential. If you enjoy working with children and want a part-time job where you can make a meaningful difference, we'd love to meet you!

Hourly Pay: $16.00

Schedule: Part-time, primarily afternoon hours (Monday - Friday approximately 2:00–6:00 pm)

Location: Regular travel to schools and community locations within Durham, NC

What Will Your Afternoons Look Like?

Imagine arriving at a local school or community center in the afternoon, ready to lead a group of girls through their next Girl Scout adventure. One day, you might guide them through a hands-on STEM experiment. Another day, you could lead a creative project, help them practice teamwork, or facilitate a conversation about friendship, confidence, and leadership.

You'll be the person who brings these activities to life, creating a welcoming, encouraging environment where girls feel comfortable participating, trying new things, and being themselves.

Throughout the week, you'll:

  • Lead engaging activities: Facilitate Girl Scout programs at schools and community locations using established Girl Scout curriculum and resources.
  • Connect with girls: Build positive relationships and create an environment where every girl feels included, supported, and encouraged.
  • Prepare for programs: Gather supplies, review activity plans, and make sure you're ready for each session.
  • Work with community partners: Coordinate with school staff and community contacts to support successful programming.
  • Keep things organized: Track attendance, complete registrations, collect participant feedback, and maintain accurate program records.
  • Help girls stay connected: Share information about opportunities to continue their Girl Scout experience through troops and other programs.
  • Most of your work will take place during afternoon programming hours, although some days may include planning, team meetings, community events, or other activities.

What Makes Someone Successful in This Role?

You don't have to be a former Girl Scout or have years of professional teaching experience.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Genuinely enjoys working with children and helping them learn and grow.
  • Feels comfortable leading activities and keeping a group of girls engaged.
  • Brings patience, creativity, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
  • Can adapt when an activity doesn't go exactly as planned.
  • Is dependable, organized, and able to work independently.
  • Communicates well with children, families, school staff, and coworkers.
  • Enjoys working with people from different backgrounds and experiences.

Requirements

A Few Other Things to Know:

  • Must live in North Carolina, within or near Durham, NC.
  • Must be available for a flexible part-time schedule Monday - Friday between 2:00 - 6:00 pm.
  • Travel is required. A reliable vehicle, valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and applicable vehicle registration and inspection compliance are necessary.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be willing to become a member of Girl Scouts of the USA upon hire.
  • Spanish bilingual skills are a plus.

The position also supports Girl Scout recruitment, membership goals, council fundraising initiatives, and program reporting as needed.

Make Your Afternoons Matter!

Every girl deserves opportunities to try something new, discover her strengths, and build confidence in who she is.

As a Community Engagement Specialist, you'll help create those opportunities, one activity, one conversation, and one Girl Scout experience at a time. Ready to make a difference? Apply today to join Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines!
