Job Description

The Orvis School of Nursing at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a Community Outreach Specialist.

The Community Outreach Specialist supports the Orvis School of Nursing StreetReach project team to implement StreetReach outreach activities. The position reports to the Project Coordinator and/or the Director of StreetReach. This position is primarily responsible for conducting community outreach to provide 1-on-1 health education and recruitment into StreetReach services, as well as overdose prevention education and provision of overdose prevention supplies and materials to individuals who are unhoused. Additional duties include: supply maintenance and management, building and maintaining community relations, and making community referrals.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma and (3) three years of related work experience, an Associate’s Degree and (2) years of related work experience, a Bachelor’s Degree and (1) one year of related work experience or a Master’s Degree. Related experience: Previous work experience as an outreach worker, Lived experience with substance use disorder and/or homelessness, or related

Licensure

A valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license within 30 days of appointment.

Schedule and Travel

Variable work schedule to include some nights and weekends

• •Frequent travel within Reno/Sparks community
• •Up to 50% of the work will be walking and standing while conducting outreach. Outreach may at times be conducted in inclement weather (heat and cold).
