Description

Join Our Pack & Pride as a Community Programs Coordinator!

Salary up to $45,000 annually based on experience | Comprehensive Benefits Package | Full-time, 40 hours/week

Are you passionate about helping pets and the people who love them? Do you enjoy building community connections, coordinating meaningful programs, and creating solutions that keep animals safe, healthy, and in loving homes?

If you're an organized, compassionate professional who loves working with people, volunteers, and community partners while making a direct impact on animal welfare, the Humane Society of Sarasota County (HSSC) wants you on our team.

Why HSSC?

At HSSC, we're more than a shelter. We're a community-driven organization dedicated to saving lives, strengthening the human-animal bond, and providing compassionate care for animals in need.

Many of the animals and pet owners we help never enter our shelter. Through programs like our Community Cat Program, Rehome Assistance Program, and Community Pet Food Pantry, we provide resources and support that keep pets in homes, improve animal welfare throughout our community, and create positive outcomes for both people and animals.

As our Community Programs Coordinator, you'll help lead these essential programs while working alongside volunteers, community partners, and fellow animal welfare professionals to expand HSSC's impact beyond our shelter walls.

Why You'll Love This Role

  • Support Pets and Families in Need. Connect community members with resources that help keep pets healthy, safe, and in loving homes.
  • Make an Impact Beyond the Shelter Walls. Coordinate programs that reach thousands of animals and pet owners throughout Sarasota County.
  • Build Meaningful Community Partnerships. Collaborate with veterinary providers, volunteers, donors, and local organizations to support lifesaving initiatives.
  • Lead Programs That Matter. Play a key role in the success and growth of HSSC's Community Cat Program, Rehome Assistance Program, and Community Pet Food Pantry.
  • Work with a Passionate Team. Partner with intake, medical, volunteer, adoption, and community engagement teams to achieve positive outcomes.
  • See the Difference You Make Every Day. Help families access support, improve the lives of community cats, and ensure pets receive the resources they need.

What the Day Really Looks Like

  • Coordinate Community Programs. Oversee the daily operations of the Community Cat Program, Rehome Assistance Program, and Community Pet Food Pantry.
  • Coordinate Community Cat Services. Assist with TNVR requests, spay/neuter scheduling, veterinary partnerships, grant eligibility, and program logistics.
  • Manage Pet Food Pantry Operations. Help ensure pet food and supplies are accessible to community members who need them most.
  • Build Community Relationships. Maintain positive partnerships with veterinary providers, donors, service organizations, and community stakeholders.
  • Provide Outreach and Education. Represent HSSC at community events and educate pet owners about available resources and services.
  • Track Program Success. Maintain program records, reporting, inventory, data, and funding documentation.
  • Help Programs Grow. Identify opportunities to improve services, strengthen partnerships, and increase community impact.

Requirements

You're a Perfect Fit If You...

  • Have experience in animal welfare, community programs, volunteer management, customer service, or a related field.
  • Enjoy building strong relationships with volunteers, community partners, donors, and the public.
  • Are organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Have strong communication skills and enjoy educating and engaging others.
  • Are comfortable speaking with people from diverse backgrounds and addressing a variety of community needs.
  • Possess or are willing to obtain Fear Free Animal Handling certification.
  • Can confidently represent HSSC in community settings and public-facing events.
  • Are comfortable working with cats and dogs of varying sizes, breeds, temperaments, and medical needs.
  • Are passionate about animal welfare and aligned with HSSC's mission and values.

The Nuts & Bolts

  • Full-time, exempt/salaried position
  • Department: Intake & Foster Services

  • Works closely with volunteers, community partners, veterinary providers, and HSSC staff
  • Requires occasional evening, weekend, and holiday availability based on operational needs
  • Includes both office-based and community-facing responsibilities
  • Shelter-based role with regular interaction with cats, dogs, volunteers, and members of the public

Ready to Make a Lifesaving Difference?

If you're looking for a rewarding career where you can help pets stay with the people who love them, strengthen community resources, and make a meaningful impact on animal welfare, we'd love to meet you.
