YOUR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
A Design System Consultant is someone who:
Builds and maintains design system foundations, components & patterns in code to agreed quality and accessibility standards
Works alongside designers and engineers to bring designs to life within our technical environments
Partners and builds relationships with people across NAB to achieve shared goals
Contributes to the technical direction of the Design System, within standards set by the Chapter
Supports squads consuming the Design System, unblocking adoption and integration issues
Shares craft knowledge with peers through pairing, code review and documentation
Keeps current on emerging front-end technologies and brings recommendations to the Chapter. Fulfil other tasks as assigned by your People Leader and/or authorized representative of NAB Vietnam from time to time.
ESSENTIALS CAPABILITIES:
Mindset – Detail oriented problem solving and a strong foundation in the technologies used to build digital experiences, applying human-centred design (HCD) methods to understand customer and colleague needs.
Front-end engineering – Hands-on proficiency building accessible, performant and reusable UI in HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and React (ideally Swift & Kotlin), including component APIs, design tokens, theming, and cross-browser and cross-device behaviour.
Design System – Build, document and maintain components and patterns within an established Design System, applying its governance and conventions rather than defining them.
Engineering practice – Confident with Git and branching strategies, code review, automated testing, CI pipelines, and the versioning and release of a published component library.
Systems thinking – Making sense of complex product and technological environments, understanding how a change to one component affects consuming teams downstream.
Prototyping – Using code and prototyping tools to design, build and iterate on interactions and patterns quickly so they can be tested and refined.
Accessibility – Applied knowledge of how to meet accessibility standards in code: semantic markup, keyboard and screen reader support, focus management and contrast. Tests with assistive technology and remediates defects.
Research – Perform desktop research on front-end technologies, competitor patterns and emerging trends to inform build decisions.
Analytics – Using data and evidence to inform build, adoption and prioritisation decisions.
Collaboration – Collaborate closely within a cross functional team of Designers, Product Owners, Technical Analysts and Engineers to deliver cohesive, accessible and attractive components.
Communication – Clear and concise written and verbal communication with technical, design and business stakeholders, and documentation good enough that others can consume a component without help.
YOUR SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
3 - 5 years experience working as a Design Technologist, Front-end UI Engineer and/or Designer with an engineering focus
Demonstrated experience shipping production front-end code using HTML5, JavaScript, CSS and React
Experience building or consuming a Design System, including component libraries and design tokens
Demonstrated ability to work across disciplines and understand where design intersects with technology and engineering
Experience applying design process, experience design principles and design tools (e.g. Figma), and translating design files into code
A working understanding of Web Accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2) and how to test against them
Experience working in Agile teams, using agile tools and methods, Test-Driven Development, Git and Continuous Integration
Ability to perform the essential capabilities of this role independently, with guidance on complex or ambiguous problems.
