JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Responsible for teaching sewing techniques, garment construction, pattern reading, and machine operation to students of various skill levels. Duties include lesson planning, classroom instruction, light equipment maintenance, and student support. Requires strong sewing expertise, communication skills, and the ability to create an engaging learning environment. Job Essential Position Functions:

  • Teach beginner to advanced sewing and garment construction techniques
  • Instruct students in:
  • Apparel sewing
  • Pattern making and pattern alterations
  • Fabric selection and textile knowledge
  • Garment fitting and finishing techniques
  • Machine operation and sewing safety
  • Demonstrate proper use of industrial and domestic sewing machines and tools
  • Create lesson plans, class projects, and instructional materials
  • Guide students through the complete garment production process from concept to finished piece
  • Provide individualized feedback and support to students
  • Maintain classroom organization, sewing equipment, and supplies
  • Foster a creative, inclusive, and professional learning environment

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications for Education and Experience:

  • Proven experience in garment design, apparel sewing, and pattern making
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction and sewing techniques
  • Previous teaching, training, or workshop facilitation experience preferred
  • Ability to teach students of different skill levels, learning styles and ages
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience using industrial and domestic sewing equipment
  • Fashion design or apparel-related education/certification preferred

  • Fashion illustration or design software knowledge
  • Alterations and tailoring experience
  • Curriculum development experience
  • Ability to manage classroom projects and timelines
