Summary
About the Position: The position is located at the dinning facility in Martin Army Community Hospital within Nutrition Care Division at, Fort Benning, GA. The position is a fast-paced and customer-focused environment dedicated to providing quality food service. The work environment is dynamic, requiring attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in a high-traffic area. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation
Duties
- Works alone or with a higher-grade cook, prepares and cooks a variety of simple menu items that require little or no processing such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, and fresh or canned vegetables.
- Prepares raw fruit and vegetable ingredients as well as completed salads, sandwiches and sandwich fillings.
- Prepares food by peeling, chopping, grinding, parting, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring or breading. Weighs, measures, and assembles ingredients for regular and modified menu items.
- Sets up and serves hot food on cafeteria and patient tray lines.
- Operates/maintains and cleans equipment and work areas in sanitary conditions
- Disassembles, cleans and reassembles equipment.
- Sweeps and mops floors; washes utensils, equipment, tables, food warmers and refrigerators; cleans ovens, ranges and other food service equipment.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Cook ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties such as preparing and cooking a variety of simple menu items that require little or no processing. Setting up, preparing, and serving a variety of hot and cold food cafeteria style. Operating and cleaning basic kitchen equipment. Following sanitary procedures to keep work areas clean and safety procedures in food handling. Preparing food in a variety of ways while weighing, measuring, and assembling ingredients for regular menu items. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. - Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision -Work Practices (Including Keeping Things Neat, Clean, and in Order) -Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) -Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. -Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment -Knowledge of Materials -Dexterity and Safety PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing over 40 pounds or more. Work involves virtually constant standing and walking, reaching and stooping, pushing and pulling, and bending. WORKING CONDITIONS: The kitchen is hot and noisy at times, and there is exposure to temperature extremes when entering walk-in refrigerator from the kitchen. There is exposure to steam, fumes, and cooking odors, and danger of falling on floors which has been freshly mopped or where food has been spilled. There is danger of bums from steam or hot foods, cuts from knives or machines. Work involves exposure to noise levels above 85db(A), requiring the use of hearing protective equipment. Working conditions have been considered in the evaluation of this job. Employees are required to wear any personal protective equipment as applicable to their duties.
