Help get better trained personnel to the front line faster – This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced professional to make a lasting impact by mentoring the next generation of Royal Navy engineers—leveraging your career expertise without the need for prior teaching experience!

Project Selborne is a Transformational Training programme with a strategic goal of modernising Royal Navy training to deliver “better trained sailors to the front line faster”.

Your role will be to provide support to the delivery of training across Coppersmith/Pipefitter skills area within Skill of Hand Training group.

Job Description:

  • 🕒 Full-time role, 37.5 hours a week on a term time only basis
  • 📍 HMS Sultan, Portsmouth

🔐 Due to the nature of this role, you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance at SC level.

What you’ll be doing

Provide training on how to fit pipework on ships from a drawing (Fit from design)

Teaching Brazing techniques

Maintain strong working relationships with customers and colleagues within the Marine Engineering Electrical training area.

Support trainee development through assessment, feedback, and personalised learning approaches.

Maintain and update training materials, and contribute to modernising and improving training delivery.

Ensure compliance with KPIs, SLAs, and safety standards, while maintaining a CPD portfolio.

What we’re looking for

Essential Skills/Experience/Qualifications

Minimum Level 3 Technical Certificate in an Engineering discipline

Be proficient in the use of IT (hardware/software) within the workplace

Competent practical Coppersmith/Pipefitter hand skills

Proven experience in workshop/industry principles

Desirable Skills/Experience/Qualifications

Level 4 Teaching Qualification / DCTS Defence Train The Trainer Course or equivalent (successful completion)

Previous instructional experience in a military or civilian engineering environment

This role is offered on a term time basis working 45 weeks per year, with non-working weeks taken 2 weeks at Christmas and Easter and 3 weeks in August. The salary will therefore be pro rata’d and calculated to include contractual annual leave entitlement and bank holidays.
