Corporate Counsel, Real Estate, GREF Legal

Amazon is seeking a strategic, business-minded real estate attorney to support the development, expansion, and management of Amazon's corporate real estate portfolio. You'll work on complex, varied transactions involving office, lab, and research and development space, advise on the real estate implications of mergers and acquisitions transactions, and look around corners to identify and mitigate critical legal and reputational risks.

You will lead legal strategy on complex commercial real estate transactions and development projects and provide legal counsel and contract interpretation to business team members on a daily basis. In addition, you will develop, implement, and manage process improvements, build AI tools to simplify and streamline our work, resolve legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships, and handle pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries. You'll have exposure to senior leadership on high-profile projects.

• Key job responsibilities
• - Lead legal strategy on complex commercial real estate transactions for Amazon's leased and owned corporate sites (including offices, labs, R&D, and other specialty and hybrid sites).
• - Serve as strategic legal advisor to business partners on real estate matters impacting portfolio strategy, asset management, and site operations
• - Identify and proactively flag legal and business risks in real estate transactions, providing practical solutions that balance risk mitigation with speed to launch
• - Manage and direct outside counsel on complex negotiations — owning legal strategy while maintaining quality and cost discipline
• - Advise on land use, zoning, entitlements, and permitting strategies across diverse regulatory environments
• - Collaborate cross-functionally with Real Estate, Operations, Finance, Tax, Construction, and Environmental teams to drive projects from site selection through launch
• - Structure creative deal solutions for novel legal and business challenges, including first-impression issues in new asset types and emerging business lines
• - Support post-acquisition and post-lease matters including construction contracts, property management agreements, landlord disputes, and ongoing operational real estate issues
• - Drive process improvements and leverage AI and legal technology to increase efficiency and scalability across the real estate legal function

• A day in the life
• Your day might start on a call with outside counsel negotiating a new lease for a robotics R&D facility. By mid-morning, you're reviewing a construction contract for new office space. Your afternoon might include working on a cross-functional team developing AI tooling to simplify real estate transactions and advising business partners on a landlord dispute at an existing location. Throughout the day, you balance urgent matters with strategic work, making high-judgment calls that directly impact the experience of Amazon's employees.

Basic qualifications

• - 5+ years of post bar admission legal experience
• - Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent
• - Experience in Real Estate Law
• - Knowledge of the ethical considerations surrounding AI in the legal context, such as confidentiality, accuracy, and bias prevention

Preferred qualifications

• - Can distill complex legal issues into clear, concise business guidance
• - Can use AI for legal research, contract analysis, or document review experience

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
