It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!

Description of Work

This position is located at NC Correctional Institution for Women in Raleigh, NC. NCCIW is a female all custody facility. Reporting to the Correctional Food Service Manager III, employees in this class are responsible for supervision of Correctional Food Service Officers and providing oversight of offenders.

Job Duties Included:

- Perform large-scale food production inside an all custody prison facility.

- Supervision of food preparation and services of regular and therapeutic diets for the offender population.

- Coordinate plans, direct, and supervise the daily preparation of food and serving food.

- Duties include food preparation, storage, menu planning, menu planning to use substitutions, maintaining sanitation requirements, and recordkeeping.

  • - Use a computerize food and nutrition system to prepare and serve daily
  • meal.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $37,377.00 - 65,408.00

  • Documented knowledge of sanitation, preparing menus, managing inventory, and/or other large-scale food service production activities.

About The Division of Institutions:

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, or as a Correctional Officer, or one year as a Correctional Food Service Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
