About the role

As a Criminal Justice Volunteer, you’ll support our practitioners to work with young people who are involved in, or at risk of becoming involved in, the criminal justice system. You’ll help build positive relationships, encourage engagement and support young people to make positive changes.

You’ll work alongside experienced practitioners, supporting community visits, appointments and structured sessions. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference while gaining valuable experience in criminal justice, recovery and youth support.

Key duties

  • Support practitioners working with young people involved with probation or youth justice services.
  • Co-work a caseload under the guidance of an experienced practitioner.
  • Accompany practitioners on community visits and planned appointments.
  • Help encourage engagement, attendance and positive participation.
  • Support structured sessions around behaviour change, recovery and future goals.
  • Help young people develop practical skills, set goals and reflect on choices and consequences.
  • Promote positive behaviour, responsibility and engagement with support.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Follow safeguarding, information-sharing and service procedures.
  • Communicate any concerns appropriately to Aquarius staff.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is approachable, patient and reliable, with an interest in supporting young people and making a positive difference.

You’ll be comfortable working in community settings and able to build rapport with young people while maintaining clear professional boundaries. You’ll communicate in a respectful and non-judgemental way and understand the importance of confidentiality and safeguarding.

You’ll be willing to work as part of a team, follow guidance from experienced practitioners and reflect on your own approach. An interest in criminal justice, youth offending, substance use or recovery would be particularly welcome.
