Joining our operations team means being at the center of everything – maintaining and evolving critical infrastructure that powers the digital world and delivers real impact for our customers, communities and society. Critical Facilities Engineer (Level III): Electrical / Mechanical

Location: Equinix, Slough campus

You've got your trade, you've got some solid hands-on experience, and you're ready for the next step. You want to work on systems that really matter, learn from experienced engineers, and build a career, not just do another maintenance job.

Equinix runs some of the world's most critical data centres. Banks, hospitals, airlines and cloud providers depend on our sites every minute of the day.

Slough is our largest UK campus and one of our busiest in Europe. The plant behind it is what you already know: power distribution, standby generation, cooling, water and fire systems. The difference here is that everything runs 24/7 and there's no shutdown window. That makes it one of the best places to grow as an engineer.

We're looking for an Electrician / Electrical Engineer or Mechanical Engineer to join the team as a Level III Critical Facilities Engineer. You'll handle day-to-day maintenance on your own and work alongside senior engineers on critical systems. Over time, you'll build the skills and authorisations to move up.

What you'll be doing

Keeping the plant running

  • Planned and reactive maintenance, repairs and installations on electrical and mechanical systems
  • Helping senior engineers with larger repairs and fault-finding on critical plant, including LV distribution, standby generators, backup power, chillers, pumps, air handling, water and fire suppression
  • Operating fire suppression, water and safety systems with support from senior engineers
  • Monitoring the BMS and responding quickly to alarms using clear procedures

Working safely on site

  • Supporting the permit-to-work process for contractors: briefing them, checking the work during the shift and reviewing it at the end
  • Completing site logs and permits, and following method statements and procedures
  • Supporting senior engineers during incidents and learning how we respond when something fails

Growing with the team

  • Assisting on infrastructure projects and new installations
  • Flagging when parts and spares need restocking
  • Learning from experienced engineers and building your authorisations step by step

What you'll bring

  • A trade background in electrical or mechanical engineering . NVQ Level 3 or equivalent is required, and AM2 is preferred for electrical candidates.
  • Hands-on maintenance experience in a commercial or industrial setting, such as manufacturing, utilities, commercial buildings, transport, or the armed forces
  • Experience working in the UK and an understanding of UK regulations and safe systems of work
  • A safety-first attitude and the discipline to follow procedures
  • Curiosity and a real drive to learn and develop
  • Willingness to work shifts and be part of an on-call rota

Data centre experience isn't required. If you've maintained plant and want to take your skills further, we'll teach you the rest.

Why Equinix

  • A clear career path. Our engineering track runs from Level II up to Shift Lead, with routes into supervisor and management roles. With several sites on the Slough campus, there's room to grow without moving away.
  • Stability. Our sector is growing fast, and Equinix is a global leader in it. That means long-term, secure work.
  • Training. You'll get manufacturer training, routes to switching authorisations, and ongoing technical development.
  • Benefits: An annual bonus and employer pension contribution. Private medical insurance, with family cover options. Life assurance and income protection. Generous annual leave plus bank holidays. An employee share purchase plan and wellbeing programmes. Gym discounts and other perks.
