Role Overview

The Cross Technology Managed Services Engineer (L3) is a senior technical specialist responsible for delivering operational excellence across multiple technology domains within managed services environments. The role requires a strong foundation in core infrastructure technologies, including operating systems, Active Directory, identity and messaging services, with primary expertise in public cloud platforms, cloud networking, and cloud security.

This position provides advanced technical support, complex incident resolution, proactive service optimisation, and technical leadership across hybrid and multi-cloud customer environments. The engineer acts as an escalation point for lower-tier engineers and contributes to the design, automation, and continuous improvement of managed services operations.

Key Responsibilities

Public Cloud Operations

  • Manage, maintain, and optimise Azure, AWS and/or GCP environments.
  • Support cloud-native networking, identity, security, and governance services.
  • Implement and maintain cloud security controls, policies, and best practices.
  • Monitor cloud platform performance, availability, and cost optimisation initiatives.
  • Support cloud migration, modernisation, and transformation projects.

Cloud Networking & Security

  • Administer and troubleshoot:
  • Virtual Networks (VNETs)
  • AWS VPCs
  • Routing and segmentation
  • VPN connectivity
  • ExpressRoute / Direct Connect
  • Load balancing
  • DNS services
  • Firewalls and security appliances
  • Implement and manage:
  • Zero Trust principles
  • Network Security Groups
  • Web Application Firewalls
  • Cloud security services
  • Identity-based access controls

Service Operations

  • Act as L3 escalation point for critical incidents and complex technical issues.
  • Lead root cause analysis and problem management activities.
  • Deliver proactive maintenance and service improvement initiatives.
  • Develop automation and standardisation opportunities.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.

Customer Engagement

  • Provide technical guidance to clients and internal teams.
  • Participate in service reviews and technical governance discussions.
  • Support project teams during implementations and transitions into support.
  • Contribute technical expertise during solution planning and design discussions.

Experience Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in managed services or enterprise infrastructure environments.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting public cloud platforms in production environments.
  • Strong experience in cloud networking and security technologies.
  • Experience with Microsoft identity and messaging platforms.
  • Proven ability to lead technical troubleshooting and major incident resolution.

  • AZ-104 Microsoft Azure Administrator
  • AZ-305 Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • AZ-700 Azure Network Engineer Associate
  • AZ-500 Azure Security Engineer Associate
  • SC-100 Cybersecurity Architect Expert (advantageous)

The successful candidate will be a highly versatile infrastructure and cloud engineer who combines deep technical expertise in public cloud, networking, and security with broad cross-technology knowledge spanning operating systems, identity, and messaging platforms. They will demonstrate strong problem-solving capability, customer focus, operational excellence, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
