About us
SRT Marine Systems plc ( SRT ) is a market leader in the domain of international marine surveillance technology and systems. We are a respected, established, and an ambitious multi-national company headquartered in the UK with a global customer base.
The company has a worldwide impact in the marine sector by leading the next generation of maritime domain awareness technologies “MDA”, products, and systems that significantly enhance security, safety, environmental protection, and sustainability. Our customers are global and range from the largest national coast guards to individual vessel owners.
We are now entering a new and strategically significant phase of growth, characterised by the expansion of our systems to incorporate Land Border Surveillance Systems . Our new Sovereign Territory Surveillance ( STS ) Systems will play a crucial role in enhancing civil defence security through the deployment of advanced automated security infrastructures. Utilised by nations worldwide, these technologies facilitate the monitoring of sovereign land borders, thereby strengthening border integrity and national security.
SRT ’s vision is to make innovative use of publicly available data, augmenting it with proprietary data as a differentiator in the Maritime Domain Awareness market. SRT see Data Science and Machine Learning as an essential component to achieving this goal.
About the Role
If you've ever wanted to build intelligent systems from the ground up rather than optimise someone else's models, this could be your opportunity.
As a Data Scientist, you'll help shape how multiple streams of real-world data are transformed into meaningful intelligence. Working on various AI technologies and across the entire data science lifecycle, from early-stage research to deployment, Y ou'll develop solutions that identify anomalous behaviour, uncover patterns and help users make faster, better-informed decisions in environments where accuracy matters.
- This is not a role where you'll inherit a mature function and make incremental improvements. You'll help define approaches, influence technical direction and contribute across the full development lifecycle . You'll work with proprietary datasets, emerging AI technologies and cloud-native platforms, turning complex technical challenges into practical solutions that deliver value to end users. If you enjoy ownership, autonomy and solving problems that don't come with a predefined answer, you'll
- could be a good fit for SRT
About You
You're already applying machine learning and AI in complex environments and understand that solving real-world problems often requires navigating ambiguity as much as writing code. Perhaps you're looking for a Data Scientist role with greater ownership, broader technical influence or the opportunity to work on products where your contribution is visible and valued.
You'll bring many of the following:
Commercial experience developing Machine Learning or AI solutions from concept through to deployment.
Strong Python development skills, ideally within real-time or near real-time environments.
Experience working with computer vision, radar, sensor fusion, geospatial data or similar data-rich environments.
Knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs), agentic AI workflows, autonomous agents or advanced AI applications.
Experience deploying and operating solutions through AWS, MLOps or DevOps practices.
The ability to work across the full lifecycle, from problem definition and experimentation through to production deployment.
A pragmatic approach to problem solving and the confidence to operate without excessive process or bureaucracy.
Experience gained within Maritime, Defence, Aerospace, Automotive or similarly complex engineering environments.
Strong collaboration skills and a genuine interest in working closely with product and engineering teams to solve customer problems.
What You'll Gain
- This role is designed for someone who wants more than a narrow technical remit.
- You'll have the opportunity to:
Work with unique proprietary datasets that are difficult to access elsewhere.
Influence technical direction rather than simply execute a roadmap.
Build solutions across the complete machine learning lifecycle.
Develop expertise in cutting-edge areas including anomaly detection, agentic AI and intelligent decision-support systems.
Operate in a high-trust environment with genuine ownership and accountability.
Move faster, with fewer organisational barriers and less bureaucracy than many larger technology organisations.
Grow alongside an expanding capability where your impact can be seen and recognised.
Apply
This is more than a Data Scientist opportunity. It's a chance to help create intelligent systems that turn complex data into actionable insight, supporting safer, smarter decisions in some of the world's most challenging maritime environments.
If you're looking for a role where you can combine machine learning, AI, geospatial analytics and real-world problem solving while having genuine influence over what gets built and how it's delivered, we'd love to hear from you.
