Overview

Southern Lumber & Millwork is seeking a dependable, hardworking Delivery Assistant / Striker to join our delivery and operations team in Charleston, South Carolina .

In this full-time, hands-on position, you will work alongside a truck driver to safely load, transport, and unload lumber, windows, doors, trim, millwork, and other building materials at job sites throughout the greater Charleston area.

The ideal candidate has a strong work ethic, is a quick learner, prioritizes safety, and understands the importance of providing excellent customer service. This role is a great opportunity for someone interested in building materials, construction, delivery, logistics, warehouse, or lumberyard work .

Responsibilities

Loading & Unloading Building Materials

• •Assist with safely loading and unloading building materials from delivery trucks.
• •Regularly lift, carry, push, position, and secure materials as needed.
• •Handle deliveries and returns that may include lumber, windows, doors, trim, millwork, and other building products.
• •Help protect products from damage during loading, transportation, and unloading.

Driver & Delivery Support

• •Serve as a second set of eyes for the driver when backing up, maneuvering, or navigating tight job sites.
• •Help the driver safely position the delivery vehicle when visibility is limited.
• •Provide hands-on assistance throughout the delivery process and at customer job sites.

Customer Service

• •Professionally and respectfully interact with contractors, builders, homeowners, and other customers at delivery locations.
• •Assist with verifying delivery information when needed.
• •Represent Southern Lumber & Millwork with a helpful, customer-focused attitude.
• •Help reinforce our reputation for dependable service and attention to detail with every delivery.

Safety

• •Follow all company safety policies and OSHA procedures.
• •Assist with basic cargo and vehicle safety checks before and after deliveries.
• •Help ensure materials are properly loaded, secured, and handled.
• •Maintain awareness of surroundings while working around trucks, equipment, materials, and active job sites.

Requirements

• •Must be dependable, hardworking, and willing to learn.
• •Must be able to safely and consistently lift and handle 80+ lbs.
• •Must follow all OSHA policies, procedures, and company safety guidelines.
• •Must be able to pass required drug testing and background checks.
• •Must be available to begin work at 5:00 AM and work until deliveries are completed , typically between 5:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
• •Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• •Must be able to professionally interact with customers and coworkers.
• •Building material, lumberyard, construction, warehouse, or delivery experience is a plus but not required .
• •Product knowledge is a plus but not required.
• •Local candidates only.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Demands

This is a physically active position that requires manual loading and unloading of materials weighing 80+ lbs. on a consistent basis . Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and safely maneuver building materials throughout the workday.

Work Environment

Work is performed both outdoors and while riding in the passenger seat of a delivery vehicle. This position requires working outside in varying weather conditions and at active job sites throughout the greater Charleston, SC area.
