We’re looking for an experienced and collaborative Deputy Managing Editor to help lead LBC’s editorial and operational output across radio, digital, video and on-demand platforms.

Reporting to the Managing Editor, you’ll help shape LBC’s editorial direction, deliver outstanding journalism and ensure our content continues to lead the national conversation. You’ll work closely with presenters, producers and editorial teams, making confident decisions in a fast-moving newsroom while driving high standards, developing talent and identifying opportunities to grow our audiences.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of one of the UK’s leading news brands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Editorial Leadership: Work alongside the Managing Editor to deliver LBC’s editorial vision, providing clear direction and ensuring consistently high-quality, distinctive and impactful content.
  • Production & Operations: Oversee the day-to-day delivery of live and on-demand output, ensuring effective planning, resourcing and smooth newsroom operations.
  • People Leadership & Development: Lead, coach and develop production teams, building a collaborative, creative and high-performing newsroom culture.
  • Digital & Audience Growth: Bring together radio, digital, video and social content, using audience insight and performance data to grow reach, listening and engagement.
  • Strategy & Innovation: Support LBC’s longer-term editorial strategy, identifying opportunities to strengthen content, improve processes and drive audience growth.
  • Editorial Standards & Compliance: Maintain the highest editorial standards, ensuring content meets Ofcom regulations and Global’s editorial requirements.

What You’ll Love

  • Think Big: Help shape the editorial direction of one of the UK’s most influential news brands.
  • Own It: Have a real impact on LBC’s daily output, editorial decisions and audience performance.
  • Keep It Simple: Make confident decisions, solve problems and help teams navigate a constantly changing news agenda.
  • Better Together: Work with brilliant presenters, producers and editorial teams to deliver outstanding journalism.

What Success Looks Like

In your first few months, you’ll have:

  • Built strong relationships with presenters, editorial leaders and production teams, becoming a trusted deputy to the Managing Editor.
  • Taken a leading role in editorial decision-making, including major breaking news and key stories.
  • Helped deliver consistently high-quality, distinctive content across LBC’s platforms.
  • Identified opportunities to improve newsroom workflows, collaboration and audience performance.
  • Supported and developed producers, helping to build a confident, high-performing team.

What You’ll Need

  • Senior Editorial Experience: A strong background in broadcast news or journalism, with experience in a senior editorial position.
  • Excellent Editorial Judgement: Confidence making quick, informed decisions, particularly during breaking news and high-pressure situations.
  • Newsroom Leadership: Experience leading teams, developing talent and influencing colleagues in a busy live newsroom.
  • Multiplatform Content Experience: A strong understanding of compelling radio, digital, video and social content.
  • Operational Expertise: Experience managing newsroom priorities, production workflows and resources effectively.
  • Audience Focus: An understanding of audience behaviour and how insight and data can improve content and drive growth.
  • Strong Communication: The ability to build trusted relationships, collaborate and influence stakeholders at all levels.
