Fincantieri Marine Systems North America is hiring for a Diesel Mechanic in the Chesapeake, VA location. This is a 1st shift role, working Monday – Friday 7:30AM – 3:30PM.

Position Summary

The Diesel Engine Mechanic is responsible for conducting inspections, identifying mechanical deficiencies, and performing repairs on various commercial and defense vessels. The ideal candidate can troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, and install marine engines and related mechanical equipment to restore proper equipment operation. This role requires a strong understanding of diesel mechanics and components in accordance with applicable safety, quality, and customer requirements.

Domestic and International travel may be required

Essential Functions

  • Perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul of marine diesel engines and associated fuel, cooling, lubrication, combustion, and power transmission systems.
  • Disassemble, inspect, measure, repair, and reassemble engines and mechanical components.
  • Perform engine timing, valve adjustments, injector replacement, and other mechanical repairs.
  • Identify wear, damage, corrosion, cracks, and deficiencies; determine repair or replacement needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of measurements, repairs, and completed work.
  • Other duties and overtime as assigned

Requirements

Required Skills

  • Must be knowledgeable in diesel engine systems, overhauls, and components (i.e. Gear train, 4 stroke diesel engine operations, combustion system
  • Must be proficient in using hand/power tools, calibration/measuring instruments, diagnostic tools, and basic machinery
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and mechanical drawings
  • Must have basic organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor
  • Must adhere to ISO and OSHA policies established by FMSNA and have high values for safety awareness

Education and Experience

Journeyman, Technical or Associate’s degree in diesel mechanics, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

3 Years of diesel engine mechanic experience required, marine ship-repair or industrial experience preferred

Must be able to obtain and maintain, DBIDS, valid driver’s license, passport; diesel mechanic certification, and/or ASE T2 preferred

  • While performing job duties, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand or walk; use hands and arms to grasp, handle, manipulate, or feel objects and controls; stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch; and speak or hear. Work is performed both inside and outside in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, and arid climates. The employee may also be required to work in confined spaces and at varying heights. Frequent use of PPE is required to minimize noise exposure, moving machinery, weather elements, and other potential hazards, including the risk of injury.
