Role Summary

As Director, Commercial Data & Analytics Architecture, you will own the architecture of Pfizer's governed commercial analytics data and semantic data layer. This ecosystem represents the foundation for Pfizer colleagues and partner teams to build analytics capabilities, including brand analytics/reporting, forecasting, data science products, and AI agents. You will be the single point of design and architecture accountability, ensuring consistency, scalability and flexibility across brands and TAs.

You will drive decisions on what components are central and what are federated, define the standards and data contracts that allow teams build in parallel, set the technology stack direction aligned with Pfizer’s enterprise strategy, and serve as approval authority for developed data pipelines/products. You will stay fully hands-on: writing reference implementations, reviewing code, and prototyping new capabilities. This role is for an architect who writes code, holds standards and deploys scalable operating models, and can partner effectively with senior business and technical stakeholders.

Role Responsibilities

Business Data Architecture & Design

Own the commercial analytics data model: standardized data domains, conformed dimensions, governed identity spines (patient, HCP, accounts), and the layered structure from raw sources to certified data products

Establish, maintain and oversee the federated development model that allows TA and brand teams to model and compute autonomously within governed guardrails, and the criteria for promoting built assets into shared domains

Publish and maintain standards, reference implementations, definitions of done, architecture decision log and reference documentation leveraged by internal colleagues and partner implementation teams

Serve as accountable architect for implementation delivered by external partners and internal brand teams, including design, review, approve and release processes

Data Contracts and Semantic Consistency

Shape and implement data contracts through which teams publish governed source-of-truth metrics into common structures, enforcing them through automated data quality and contract testing

Provide the technical backbone for a consolidated metric registry with robust processes to govern certifications

Protect consistency of certified business definitions across every consumption path, including BI, forecasting, and AI agents grounded on the unified data layer

Technology Strategy and Platform Requirements

Set the technology stack direction for the data layer: data storage and compute, transformation and orchestration, CI/CD, catalog and lineage documentation, semantic layer tooling, and infrastructure

Partner with enterprise platform teams to convey technical requirements of the commercial data layer

Evaluate emerging tools and patterns through prototyping on relevant use cases

Development Processes

Own sandbox-to-production promotion architecture, service account and access patterns, and observability standards

Shape the onboarding strategy for new brands, define the technical approach for decommissioning legacy data assets as consumption migrates to new data layers

Design for the transition from partner-led build to internally sustained operations: parameterized pipelines, metadata-driven onboarding, and automated impact analysis

Stakeholder Engagement

Translate architecture decisions into business terms for commercial analytics leaders, brand-aligned teams, and executive sponsors

Deliver concise recommendations on build-versus-buy, central-versus-federated, and adopt-versus-retire decisions to inform prioritization and funding

Basic Qualifications

8+ years in data architecture, data engineering, or analytics engineering with substantial hands-on technical delivery, with a BA/BS; 7+ years with an MS/MBA; or 5+ years with a PhD

High proficiency in SQL and Python and regular coding in production contexts; comfortable reviewing and correcting code

Deep experience with modern cloud data warehouses (Snowflake preferred), transformation frameworks, orchestration, and CI/CD for data pipelines

Demonstrated experience designing and enforcing data contracts, conformed data models, and/or metric and semantic layers consumed by multiple teams

Experience serving as design authority over vendor or partner implementation in a large enterprise

Experience with commercial pharmaceutical or life sciences data (syndicated sales, claims, specialty pharmacy, CRM, payer) and associated business definitions

Excellent written and verbal communication, including presenting architecture recommendations to senior business leaders

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field

Experience working in regulated industries such as pharmaceutical, biotech, medical devices, or financial services

Experience with data catalog and lineage tooling (Collibra or equivalent) and with governance workflows for metric certification

Practical experience preparing governed data and semantics for LLM or agent-based consumption, including grounding, retrieval, and drift detection

Track record of building reference implementations, templates, and runbooks adopted across an organization

  • Experience with federated or data mesh operating models
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
