Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) is a global health organization that partners locally and globally to create and scale solutions to the world’s deadliest health threats. Millions of people die from preventable health threats. We collaborate to close the gap between proven, life-saving solutions and the people who need them. Since 2017, we’ve worked with governments and other partners in more than 60 countries to save millions of lives. We work toward a future where people live longer, healthier lives, communities flourish, and economies thrive. This is an ambitious vision, and it inspires us and our partners to make progress every day.
Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) works with governments and partners to strengthen and transform primary health care (PHC) to improve health and save lives. Our approach focuses on making PHC more prioritised, proactive and accountable for outcomes, and strengthening how care is organised, delivered, financed and measured. Drawing on expertise across RTSL's portfolio, we bring together solutions in health system resilience and epidemic readiness, digital health and data-driven decision-making, performance measurement and improvement, and sustainable health financing. We apply these capabilities to address priority health challenges, including cardiovascular health, maternal survival and sexual and reproductive health, while strengthening health systems to deliver more equitable, effective and resilient care.
Position Purpose
The Director, Maternal & Reproductive Health will provide strategic and technical leadership for RTSL's portfolio to reduce preventable maternal deaths and improve sexual and reproductive health outcomes. The role will lead the development and implementation of a multi-country programme that strengthens government capabilities to identify and address barriers to quality care, translate data into action, and deliver measurable improvements in health outcomes.
The Director will have overall accountability for the strategy, resources, quality, performance, and results of the maternal survival and reproductive health portfolio, leading a multidisciplinary team and working closely with governments, technical partners, and colleagues across RTSL to design, implement and scale evidence-informed approaches. The role requires deep expertise in sexual, reproductive and maternal health, strong programme leadership, and the ability to translate technical evidence into practical, sustainable health system improvements.
Work Location: 100% Remote with travel as stated.
Duration: Full-time employment for a fixed term of 24 months.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Portfolio Management
Set the strategic direction, priorities and implementation approach for RTSL's maternal survival and reproductive health portfolio, exercising delegated authority to make programme investment, resource allocation, and partnership decisions within approved organisational parameters and in alignment with country priorities.
Oversee a multi-country portfolio, with accountability for programme planning, budget development and management, resource allocation, performance and delivery against strategic objectives.
Lead and manage a multidisciplinary team, establishing clear responsibilities and performance expectations, overseeing staffing and talent development, addressing performance and capacity gaps, and building the capabilities needed for sustained programme delivery.
Technical Leadership and Programme Development
Provide expert technical leadership across maternal survival and sexual and reproductive health, including maternal death surveillance and response, quality maternal care, family planning, and adolescent pregnancy prevention.
Lead the development and adaptation of evidence-informed approaches that connect data-driven learning with targeted improvements in clinical care, service delivery and wider health system capabilities.
Guide the design and implementation of country programmes, identifying opportunities to strengthen government leadership, institutional capabilities and sustainable approaches to improving health outcomes.
Drive innovation and collaboration across RTSL's technical teams, drawing on expertise in PHC delivery, digital health, measurement and financing to address priority health system bottlenecks.
Country Engagement and Strategic Partnerships
Lead senior-level engagement with Ministries of Health and national partners to identify priorities, shape country strategies and secure government ownership of programmes and results.
Develop and manage strategic partnerships with donors, multilateral agencies, technical institutions and implementing partners, identifying opportunities for collaboration, investment and programme expansion, and representing RTSL in high-level technical and policy discussions.
Performance, Learning and Accountability
Maintain overall accountability for portfolio performance and results, establishing clear performance expectations and monitoring mechanisms, and using evidence and implementation learning to inform strategic decisions, address delivery challenges, and adapt approaches.
Oversee the generation, synthesis and dissemination of evidence and practical learning to inform policy, programme improvement and scale-up across countries.
Qualifications
Education
Advanced degree in medicine, public health, sexual and reproductive health, obstetrics and gynaecology, or a related field.
