Working at Trail Appliances means joining an entrepreneurial-minded, driven team dedicated to delivering an exceptional customer experience. Trail Appliances is the leading independent appliance retailer in Western Canada. We’re a fast-growing company with over 500 employees in British Columbia, spread out over 10 showrooms, 3 Outlet Centres, 3 distribution centres, and 4 offices in BC's major markets. Join our team of trailblazers!

Our core values:

Integrity – We do what’s right, even when no one is looking.

Improvement – We do it well. Then we do it better.

Caring – We put ourselves in others’ shoes.

Authenticity – We like people, not pretense.

Determination – We kick down walls.

Lead from the floor. Rethink workflows. Build a better operation.

You know what a well-run warehouse looks like: inventory you can trust, teams that know the plan, equipment ready to work and the right product moving to the right place without damage. You also know those results come from strong leadership on the floor, not just reports in an office.

Trail Appliances is looking for a Director of Warehouse Operations to lead our major-appliance warehouse network across Delta, the Okanagan, Victoria and Nanaimo. We have recently implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365). Our next opportunity is to refine how we work: simplify processes, remove bottlenecks and make better use of the system’s capabilities. We need more than someone who can maintain today’s operation. We need a hands-on problem solver and workflow designer who can help build a more efficient one.

Why this role stands out

A regional mandate with tangible impact. Shape how four regions receive, protect, store and move major appliances.

Leadership that stays close to the work. Coach site leaders, spend time on the floor and solve problems where they happen.

A clear operating focus. Own warehouse operations, inventory integrity and warehouse readiness for delivery handoff, without responsibility for Service Operations or delivery execution.

A chance to shape what comes next. Build on our recent D365 implementation by redesigning workflows, removing unnecessary steps and helping teams use the system to its fullest operational potential. This is a warehouse leadership role with a strong process-improvement mandate, not an IT implementation role.

As the Director of Warehouse Operations, you will lead

Workflow design and practical problem-solving. Get onto the floor, map how work actually happens and identify root causes, bottlenecks, duplicate handling and unnecessary manual steps. Redesign receiving, put-away, picking and transfer workflows around sound operating practices and D365 capabilities. Partner with Technology and process owners to test improvements, train teams, standardize what works across regions and measure the results.

Reliable warehouse execution. Lead receiving, put-away, storage, picking, staging, loading, customer pickups and inter-warehouse transfers. Align capacity, space and daily priorities with demand and delivery requirements.

Inventory and system integrity. Ensure inbound loads are entered and receipts posted promptly in D365. Keep physical movements and system records aligned, complete required warehouse workflows consistently and resolve open work and transaction exceptions. Lead cycle counts, physical counts and reconciliation with Finance.

Accurate fulfilment and product protection. Set high standards for picking accuracy and appliance handling. Reduce damage, shrink and avoidable rehandling through training, disciplined handoffs and root-cause improvements.

Strong teams and efficient labour. Develop managers and supervisors, reinforce clear expectations and build cross-training. Match shift schedules and staffing to workload while carefully managing payroll, overtime and productivity.

Cost control and operational readiness. Own warehouse budgets and operating costs. Keep facilities, lift trucks, handling equipment, docks and scanning equipment maintained and ready for use.

Safety without compromise. Partner with the Health and Safety Manager to implement safe-work standards, training, inspections and corrective actions, while meeting applicable employment and safety requirements.

Consistent regional performance. Use a practical scorecard, regular site reviews and clear accountability to improve results. Ensure safety concerns, inventory discrepancies, picking errors, damage and system issues are escalated immediately and followed through to resolution.

To be successful in this role, you bring

10+ years of progressive warehouse or distribution leadership experience, including leading managers and large frontline teams across multiple locations.

Strong practical knowledge of receiving, inventory control, picking, loading and transfers, including safe handling of major appliances or comparable large, damage-sensitive products.

A strong process-design mindset and a record of solving complex warehouse problems: diagnosing root causes, redesigning workflows and delivering measurable gains in inventory accuracy, productivity, labour efficiency and cost without compromising safety or product condition.

The ability to connect physical warehouse processes with ERP/WMS capabilities and turn system functionality into better ways of working. Direct D365 experience is valuable, but practical problem-solving, workflow design and the ability to lead adoption matter more than familiarity with a particular platform.

Confidence with budgets, workforce planning, payroll controls, performance measures and operational problem-solving.

A hands-on leadership style: visible on the floor, clear about expectations, committed to developing people and quick to act when standards slip.

Sound judgement, clear communication and the ability to work effectively with Delivery, Sales, Purchasing, Finance, Technology, Human Resources and Health and Safety.

Bonus Points: Direct D365 Finance and Operations experience; major-appliance distribution experience; relevant supply chain, logistics or business education; and experience with continuous improvement, vendor agreements or COR certification processes.

What success looks like

Warehouse workflows are simpler, more consistent and more efficient across regions. Teams use D365 confidently, complete required work accurately and rely less on manual workarounds. Improvements deliver measurable reductions in delays, unnecessary handling, errors and cost. Inventory is accurate and available in D365 when it should be. Picks are right, loads are ready and appliances are protected. Labour costs are controlled, equipment is reliable and safety is part of every shift. When something goes wrong, it is surfaced quickly, owned clearly and resolved at the root cause.

Work Environment

This full-time, on-site role is based at our Delta Warehouse on Annacis Island, with substantial time on the warehouse floor and intermittent travel to the Okanagan, Victoria and Nanaimo. Availability across operating shifts and during peak periods or significant operational issues is required.

Ready to lead the operation?

If you enjoy solving operational problems, building strong teams and turning better workflows into lasting results, we would like to hear from you. Submit your resume and a brief note describing a warehouse process you redesigned, how you brought the team along and the measurable results you achieved.
